Beckham to Los Angeles for $250 million USD

Post by shankdown »

Wow. Beckham is going to play Major League Soccer in the US for Los Angeles, and they're gonna pay him $250 million US over five years. They must be working really hard to promote soccer over in these parts now!

You get to marry posh spice as a fringe benefit too. I know a lot of folks think that she's fabulous. Not me personally (rather bony for my tastes, and probably pretty high maintenance), but to each their own.

Please don't tell my mother that I work in the Oilpatch...she still thinks that I'm the piano player at a whorehouse.

I'd rather watch paint dry.

Soccer sucks.

I for one spent the entire lockout year watching foot ball or whatever you wanna call it and I'd have to agree. Any game where 0-0 is an average match is just too hard and boaring...and any game where 100-100 is an average score is too damn easy (if I were 7' tall i could hit that damn basket too!).

Now hockey...is Just Right!

It's not Soccer, it's Football. It's only referred to as Soccer in US/Canada to avoid confusion with err..Football. A game played with the hands not the feet.....riiight.

Outside of the US and Canada it's the only game in town.

You'll never appreciate it properly unless you spent your youth playing it, watching it, living it. Same goes for hockey here in Canada, I don't think I'll ever really get into it but my kids will.

Prefer Rugby myself, fast and physical game. No gay pads and helmets here, check these out:

The ultimate sport is Darts, you can have a beer whilst your playing it.

The Beckham thing is just a marketing deal to boost the image of the game in the US. He's past his best but probably still a better player than the rest of LA Galaxy combined. WTF, who cares? Canada is safe from the "Soccer" (grrrr I hate that word) disease....it's too farking cold to play!

Beck came to North America, so we are calling it SOCCER, since the discussion is about NA, we'll refer to football as soccer... sheesh...

Lol, no, we're just ignorant... The sun, printed an article a couple weeks ago about a kid from hamilton(maybe kitchiner) going down to the UK to play for a couple million....
and probably pretty high maintenance

ROFL.. It might just be the fact her husband makes a couple million a month.... But I'm sure we have some chick who married a millionaire who's living a frugal lifestyle....

Ha ha! Love it. That soccersucks site is perfect. Sh*t, I had no idea more kids play socc - I mean football more than hockey in Canada - interesting. Still it's got a looong way to go to immerse itself into North American culture the way it has in Europe for example.

It's a shame; it used to be a really physical game. In the 70's & 80's if you couldn't get the ball off a guy you just hacked his legs away or checked him into the stands. Nowadays you only have to fart near a guy and your penalised. It's just shite.

Yep, hockey's a tough game but it's played on ice. When you come from the land of wind and rain it just doesn't feel right to be playing a game on ice. I almost feel like tossing some salt and sand on the rink in case somebody slips over LOL.

I'm warming to it but I don't "get it". I'm working on it!
