Air Canada commuter pass targets WestJet home turf

In the latest effort to combat WestJet Airlines Ltd. on its home turf, Air Canada announced yesterday that it's offering prepaid multiflight passes that provide price breaks to frequent fliers travelling to Edmonton, Calgary, Victoria, Vancouver and Abbotsford, B.C.

The Western Commuter Pass is good for up to 10 or 20 flights, the latest in a series of pass products to be introduced by Air Canada as it seeks to build customer loyalty, said Charles McKee, Air Canada's vice-president of marketing.

WestJet already has competitive fares and has no plans to offer a rival western pass, with the carrier encouraging travellers to "do the math" before deciding whether to fly Air Canada, company spokeswoman Gillian Bentley said.

Air Canada rose 13 cents to $19.08.

Westjet fell 10 cents to $14.51.

Recently my sister after checking both AC family affair and WJ purchased a regular AC YEG-YVR return which was cheaper then WJ by $25 and family affair by $50 plus she had the frequency and chose of flights. Now days it pays to do your homework and not just assume that a LCC is cheaper...

Naturally this is not good news for the financial health of the industry..

WJ posted the highest margins of any carrier in Q3. Expect much the same in Q4. I don't know about you, but we seem to be doing just fine.

This is exactly why you are what you are. You can't take it. A friendly place? You are not a part of that. You sure don't make it that. You have a problem with the best lifestyle in this industry which you apparantly haven't experienced yet and so you try to "humble" yourselfe. It's not working. Another disgruntled wannabe, can't be. I am little confused, but does SQUID not work for AC, from his post about taking a pay cut, he says

Could you IMAGINE what the flightdeck would be like if AC and WJ ever merged. I think I would quit aviation. Man this is getting very juvenile.

You should see what the flightdeck is like NOW with the merger of Canadi<n and AirCanada.. Absolutely unbelievable.
