YLW Incident

Post by Longtimer »

Rumour has Westjet and Jazz aircraft involved in a fender bender this morning at YLW. Any fact to that?

Departing CYLW last night as we were taxing for Rwy 16 Westjet was just about to do the same. Westjet's wing tip scrapped the left tip of the horizontal stabilizer on the R.J. and knocked off the static wick and obviously damaged the tip. I am told Westjet was able to depart later however when I returned to CYLW this morning the R.J was on Kelowna Flightcraft's ramp being repaired. Could of been much worse.

shit happens and it's nice to hear ''it could have been alot worse''

Nice to hear the story coming from the source. This way, maybe alot of us will take a little more care on the ground to avoid such incidents. It can happen.

Here's how we can avoid it next time...
Installing a .50 on the roof, and a couple of rockets in the hold 8) .

Actually the 200's and 705's aren't that bad to fly. The 100's are a totally different story.....

Does anyone here think that the YLW ramp is a little on the tight side. Some times I think I should bring some KY to squeeze out of there. (Although it's normally used to sqeeze things in rather than out  )

Yeah, one day when I was workin on the ramp in YLW, the capt of the A319 we were handling refused to turn because a 737 was on the next gate. I told him no no problem, we'd wait. Took about a 15 minute delay. Afterwards, I passed this info along to the airport authority and was met with arrogance. The guy seemed appalled that a captain and ramp agent had concerns with how close the gates are.

"Shit," ALWAYS has a reason for happening, some reasons are more acceptable than others, but there is always a reason.

You know, the attitude displayed when issues are raised sometimes worries me. I always breathe a sigh of relief when I exit that ramp because of how tight it is and obviously the 319 skipper agrees with me.

Good on ya' for bringing it to the attention of the airport authority. Hopefully this incident makes 'em eat crow.
