Not liking the new Classifieds section.
Not trying to be an a$$ but the new format is really cumbersome and a pain to use. The old listings were just one click away and after looking at the postings, it was just one more click to get to the forums but now, it's 4 clicks to find the AME jobs and then 4 clicks back to the AVCANADA main page in order to access the forums.
I'm sure I'll get comfortable with the new format eventually but right now, it's not particularly user friendly.
Just trying to give some feedback.

Thanks for the input.
I placed a top menu for each page to get back to the forums quickly.
The classified area has under gone several changes in the last 12 hours to make the script more user friendly. I have several other ideas that I am currently testing out.
All suggestions are welcomed! Keep them coming.

Hello,
Some feedback regarding the new Classifieds section:
-Width scalability. The screens I'm using nowadays are pretty much all 1280 pixels wide, and the current layout looks made for 800 pixel wide screens. Unlike the forums, which adapt well to most displays.
-Are the ad ratings really necessary?
-Could the Google Maps display be collapsible (and collapsed by default) or at least put below the phone number and other lines currently below it?
-Could web and e-mail addresses be links instead of plain text?
Goodbye,
Louis

I am planning on working on the table widths this weekend. With the google ads below the left menu occassionally the tables are not being displayed correcly.
The ad ratings are really not necessary I agree. I might remove this feature.
I like your suggestion about moving the google map location or making this feature collapsible by default.

Hi Joe,
So I looked through the Classifieds a bit more now that I am home from work and a couple of more comments.
I like the ability to send the adds, rate the adds and so on, though I think that it should be relegated to a second page. When I expand an add I would like to see all the important details something similar to the way the old forums adds worked. From there I can expand to see all the nifty options. This could also work well on the main page as I feel the summaries are not quite enough information for me to go and click on before I click on it so I will spend a lot of time clicking on things I do not need to.
I would also like to see the long-in system be the same so when I log on to the message board I can go and post jobs or resume or sell stuff as well. I assume these are two totally separate packages running on separate databases but perhaps a simple SQL script in a cron job to synch the two every 5 min or something would work? Or have classifieds package just do its validation calls from the phpbb db? I don't know the classifieds package so I am just taking a shot in the dark.

Not much of a fan of the new job forum either. Difficult to get a good overview or the jobs as well as the most current postings. Was easier with the old forum as you'd just scroll through and could see the dates.
I'll also echo the comments of the others about the width and the length of time taken just to get back and forth between the pages.
Curious as to why you've gone to this new format? Much prefer the older one.
CHeers,
Rowdy

I agree with Pratt and Rowdy..
With the job forum/threads it was easier to figure out which jobs where new/old and which ones you had viewed. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to implement something like this with the new format.
As for signing in and out as a member of the classified section. Could this not be accomplished with our forum username? Just makes it one less username/password to remember.
Just some thoughts.
Thanks for all the effort you put into this site.

The orignal free job forum is back up and running again. I am now allowing any registered user the ability to post jobs on AvCanada.
See http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=27401 for more info.
Why the new posting format?
The main problems are on my end with spam, and time required to keep the free job forum updated. With the growth AvCanada has undertaken this year I am having a real hard time processing the number of ads being submitted in a resonable amount of time. This new idea will hopefully fix both of these issues. All ads will become live immediately and the user will have complete control over their own ad be it a small edit or the ability to delete their own ad once it has been filled.
Posts that are not aviation job ads will be removed by the admin or mods ASAP if they happen to appear. Any user who posts spam in this forum will be banned. This will prevent spam from being a common issue.
My orignal hope was for the new classified script to replace this area. The feedback I received the last couple of days has shown me that the users on AvCanada are happy with the original free job forum so I brought it back with this small change.
If you have any suggestion or ideas on how to improve the free job forum please send me an email.

Thanks, I think it great, is there anyway to lock a topic after the initial post. IE no one can add comments? I can see an issue being if a company that a user does not like posts a job add that this would call for flame war? I am sure that harsh penalties would be imposed for it, just a thought.

I am now allowing two options for ad placement.
Option #1. Requires no registration or login to post a job ad. Employers will only be required to fill in the original job ad form and select submit.
Option #2. Allows any user who is registered and logged in to post a job ad.
