Is this normal?

Seems like a long time to wait for the bennies to kick in if you need to get any work done on your teeth. God forbid you get sick in your first year! I understand, maybe, you get enrolled in whatever health plan they offer after your probation, but why wait a whole year? Seems like a big dis-incentive to me, unless your you think your a 19 year old who'll live forever, I suppose.

Well, you still have your provincial health care plan. Sincerly, I have a plan that covers my spouse with my work and she barely uses it. The only things she used was for glasses (and contacts) and regular dental visit...

I once work'd up northern MB for a flyin fishing lodge. Their helthplan was great...when I was injured; with a cut that need'd stitches & cuased nerve damage, they let me drive MYSELF to the local hospital! How's that for a great health plan?

btw me taking the time off to go to the hospital was contingent me agreeing on picking up a truck full of stuff while I was in town. Not that I had any problem with doing that....it was just interesting that it was a condition of my being allowed to go.

@ That job there was 100 different labour laws being broken.....BUT despite that, I have to say I do hold a grudging respect for the owner as he would never make you do anything that he wouldn't do....unfortunatly I never saw anything that he wouldn't do, & that included flying in overload'd aircraft VFR in IFR conditions....so I left; Didn't want to be on the cover of the next TC crash safety letter.

If you knew the company you would understand why. I think most won't last a year, therefore saving the company money. It's a cheap way of saying you offer benefits to entice you there. i would think most people can see through the smoke screen but don't care, just get your 500 multi-pic and move on.

You can sometimes negotiate a waiver for conditions like that especially if you have a family. It's always worth a try to ask if you're interested in working for that operation.
