WJ vs SWA pay?
It seems that WJ seems to model themselves after SWA, and to some extent JetBlue. That being true, why have the WJ pilots accepted a compensation package 40% below that of SWA pilots? I know you can include options but I'm just talking about flat basic pay, without any of the added incentives. When you look at LCC cost curves vs ASMs, SWA is still the industry leader so what makes WJ fall so far behind? What percent revenue comprise total WJ pilot costs (including training, pension, etc.)? I'm not looking for an argument here but rather an explanation regarding the cost discrepancies between SWA and WJ pilot compensations. MY guess is that WJ pilots are far less efficient per block hour due to de-icing, longer turn-around times and so on but maybe someone has studied this?
Southwest Airlines: Born in 1971
WestJet Airlines: Born in 1996
Looking back at where Southwest Airlines was after 11 years in 1982, adjusted for inflation, WestJet is about where they should be as a younger Airline. The WestJet pilots met with SWAPA when it was time to negotiate a pay deal. It was even recommended by them to remain performance based in pay.

Careful bro. You won't fit in your new job with comments like that. Now back to the thread. Guys, we in Canada are underpaid relatively speaking. But in reality, I don't think anyone is complaining.twinpratts wrote:I believe SWA also requires you to pay for a PPC before you begin...Hmmmm
Not many similarities exist between these companies
