"Reduce to final approach speed" at .... miles
I'm an ATC trainee and I have a question for you pilot people about speed control. What are pilot's thoughts on being reduced to final approach speed by ATC 7, 8 even 10 miles from the runway, whether it be for spacing from the one ahead or so tower can get a few departures off? Has anyone ever thought to themselves "Why didn't they slow me in the down wind/wider vectors?" Of course, pilots all love wide vectors, but particularly jet pilots, slowing right down with 7 or 8 miles to go must get a little annoying at times.
Thank you
Thank you

I'ts annoying in any aircraft, but inside 10 miles is really no big deal.
But just while we're on topic, do you guys ever communicate with each other? We were just given go as fast as possible by one controller, only to be told to slow down by the next, and told to keep the speed up by the last one? WTF?

just tell/ask us our speed to the beacon/final and tell us the speed/distance to the guy ahead. We'll do our best to make it work. also, just because there a jet doesn't make them fast an airbus crawling along at 140 on a 15 mile final after you made us #2 drives me bananas. mind you I'm a gorrila and bananas aren't bad
