Seems that Transport fabricated some false documents stating the doomed flight was checked out by a sniffer dog.

"The former officer was then asked about a Transport Canada document to Mr. Rae, stating that “an explosive-sniffer dog was used at Mirabel International airport for the screening of this (June 22, 1985) flight.”

“As far as you're aware, Mr. Carignan,” asked commission counsel Brian Gover. “Is that statement true?”

“It is not true, sir. I did not screen the flight,” Mr. Carignan replied.

Between CSIS, the RCMP and Transport spouting BS to cover-up their own failings, it is no wonder that the accused bombers were acquitted at trial.

This whole thing is in my opinion disgusting, shameful and criminal. The incompetence and negligence on the part of the RCMP, CSIS and the government of the day is what allowed this atrocity to happen in the first place. The ensuing coverup is just as bad and is what allowed those directly responsible to completely escape justice. This is not what I, and indeed the world, expects from Canada. It taints us all.
