fly backwards

Post by Chaffey »

In high winds, has anyone come close to flying backwards over 40kts in a C208. My friend says that he did, but has anyone come close?

Lets hear them, whats your speed?

I've done it in small singles, and could have done it in a King Air - really strong low jet stream.

I've done it flying skydivers on jumprun in a turbine. I had to increase the airspeed by about 10-15kts just to keep the plane stationary over the spot and not drift backwards.

I've also landed at a standstill with 42kt winds. I wouldn't have tried it if it was gusty though. (I was empty)

Surfed the updraft at the windward face of mount baker. Diving, then dropping the flaps and getting 2000fpm of climb, flying backwards, with the nose pointed down. Then a turn around to a chandelle at the top to ice the cake.

That was a very fun flight.

Done it in a 152. Very easy to do with such aircraft.

Did it in a Super Cub in Regina once and a Twin Otter out of Lynn Lake. I have seen it done in a Cessna 180 out of Pincher Creek. Winds there were 60 Kts

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

It was bumpy on final but nothing too crazy. The wind was really steady and predictable so I figured I'd bring it in as slow as I could with some power on in case things took a turn for the worse but in the end it worked out surprisingly well but taxiing to the ramp turned out to be another story.

I went flying one morning and we went up, sideways, foward, backwards, down and rotated around in circles at zero airspeed and kept repeating these manouvers all in one flight.

The flight lasted about an hour.

It was in Luxor Egypt with Magic Horizons Baloon Flights.

Quite fun.

Does that count?

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no

After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.
