St. Anthony Security Breach
June 30, 2007
Transport Canada is investigating what could have been a serious security breach at St. Anthony Airport. A spokesman says NAV Canada employees reported seeing an undentified vehicle entering the airport apron Tuesday morning. Then it appeared a person got out and boarded a plane with baggage that wasn't screened. The spokesman says except in special circumstances, that's not allowed. The violation carries a fine of up to 100 thousand dollars for the airline and a maximum of 5 thousand dollars for the passenger.

most company safety officers etc. can request a subscription from TC. You can try emailing the address on the website and asking for daily reports.
They gave me an form to fill out with name of first born etc.
Standards are probably relaxed a bit now that Cadors are available on the net.

I am glad our NAV Canada fees are going towards some MAJOR issues like that....
You never know, with the shape of a metro being similar to a lawn dart...
I think Provincial has only 227's though.

Provincial Airlines will be contesting fines issued by Transport Canada to the airline for a security breach earlier this summer. In a release today, Provincial Airlines Corporate Secretary Bob Halliday confirmed that Transport Canada has fined Provincial Airlines and two of its employees in relation to an alleged security breach at the St. Anthony airport on June 26 in relation to one of their flights. The $28,000 in fines are for the alledged by-passing of passenger screening by the employees so they could board the flight. Provincial Airlines says Transport Canada overeacted to media inquiries surrounding the incident by ignoring screening rules that apply to certain airline employees. The release goes on to say the airline feels Transport Canada also overreacted to those same inquiries by changing its application of screening requirements that were in effect and applied by their own employees for years. The airline indicates the employees in question had the appropriate security clearances and that Transport Canada employees gave the okay for them to board the flight, and that all criteria had been followed allowing the flight to depart without concern and that no security risk was present.

Huh? Since when does a non-screened charter flight not have access to US airspace? Just about every airport in Canada and most in the US allow private vehicle access to chartered aircraft.invertedattitude wrote:If it's a private charter flight there's no requirement for the baggage to be screened, but you won't be allowed over US airspace like that.

Was the vehicle a UFO, or did it drive on to the apron?Narrative: An unidentified vehicle was observed entering the main apron of the St. Anthony Airport (CYAY) from an unsecured location.
And if security is such a serious issue in that hot bed of terrorists in St. Anthony is TC going to use that $25,000.00 to fence off the apron?
The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Asking a pilot about what he thinks of Transport Canada, is like asking a fire hydrant what does he think about dogs.

I'm not sure the details, but if it is an "airline" service must have something to do with the type of the airlines operating certificate or something, all I know is that MPE when they fly their oil workers can't fly through the US, know that from my days workin the rampflyinphil wrote:Huh?
