FTU Audit
Does anyone have any tips or advice they can pass along regarding a TC audit of Flight Training Units? I have the Audit Checklist off the TC website.
I'm not interested in TC bashing, there's enough of that elsewhere, but if anyone has anything to share, perhaps things you didn't know that you found out after the audit, ways to improve the paperwork, things you thought were fine but were told otherwise, etc. I'd really appreciate hearing about it.
Just looking to help myself do my job better.
Thanks

As a fairly new CFI, I wasn't sure what to expect when our training unit went through an audit in July, but things ended up proceeding remarkably well.
They'll look through all of the CFI's documentation and any instructors working under your supervision. In addition to staff paperwork, they looked through several students records inspecting the PTR's and files (just to make sure everything was in order). They looked at the aircraft documents and asked questions regarding maintanence. They even looked through the aircraft checklists to make sure they were proper for given aircraft. Daily flight records are an important document to have in order too.
All in all, I was pleased with TC's professionalism and willingness to make things run smoothly.
Good luck with your audit!

It seems to depend on who you get doing the audit. The last one I went through, we divied up the flight sheets for the previous two years, making sure the up/down, out/in times matched the flight and air times; and they barely glanced at them. Hours of work down the drain! Make sure your journey logs don't have any writeovers in them or things crossed out with more than one line; they'll hang you for that one. In fact, saw a TC circular the other day which mentioned violating flight schools with writeovers in the journey logs. Just a wee bit heavy handed in my opinion
The stuff irbf mentioned is all good.

When We had our audit I found TC helpful and polite. They were looking for all flights on the sheets being logged in the journey log book. All PTRs times being in the daily sheets and all up/down time and signatures and exercises being filled in. they also checked the aircraft for checklists, plackards, maps and cfs. Weight and balance forms for all different aircraft had to be available. Don't forget the library AIP etc . The staff records and student records up to date. Student oilit permit dates before solo dates etc.
Have fun and wait until you get the report with short and long term corective action to be taken

I wish I could spell
PTRs, PTRs, PTRs. CFIs responsibility, but really, this is something that should be the responsibility of each instructor.
