Moral

Is it just me or is your Average AME a bitter, unhappy broke divorcee who spends his or her lunch break (at 1:30 am) complaning about the industry. Overworked, underpaid and with the apparant lack of people getting into the industry it doesnt look like things are gonna get much better. What do you guys think...?

1. I am not bitter.
2. I am quite happy.
3. My finances are in pretty good shape.
4. I am happily married.
5. I eat my lunch at high noon.
6. I am not overworked (my biggest stress is the drive to work), but I would like a pay increase, (It's been awhile.)
7. The industry will take whatever direction it will, I have zero control over that. I don't worry about things I can't control. I go to work and do my job, then I go home and enjoy my family life. This is what it's all about. And if there is a lack of young people coming into the industry, then the shortage will eventually drive up my wages. Supply & Demand.

I think for AME's who are unhappy, they should look elsewhere for work. At our company the latest shifts are 3pm to 1:30am and thats only in the summer months. During the winter, it's 11am to 9:30pm. People seem generally happy and the company treats us extremely well. Reasonable pay, great benefits, smiling people. What more could you ask for?

This is always a hot topic, so here's my two cents worth. I agree that there are some bitter engineers out there that will complain of the working conditions vs rate of pay. I have heard from people working for various companies that they are being asked to work in excess of 12 - 14 hrs per day to cover the workload. While my solution may seem very simplified, it is quite simple in that if you don't like the working conditions, resign from the company only after stating to the managment your reasons for doing so. If you have to try several different outfits to find a match then that is what you have to do. During your interview for a prospective job is the time to sort out what you are willing to put up with and what you aren't. If enough people follow the same course of action, then I can't help but believe that maintenance organizations will have to take notice. Again, I realize this is easier said then done as we all have to work for a living and after having invested time in a college diploma, apprenticeship time, type courses etc. etc. that it would be nice to expect a decent career in the field of your choice. We are not alone in that the dream jobs we have been expecting just may not be there in the real world. You only have to look at people with university degrees that are driving cabs or working nowhere near their field of studies. I believe that the companies that treat their employees properly will flourish, while the ones that take for granted the knowledge and skills that AME's bring to them will dwindle. Again, my two cents worth.

i agree with hangarline but first time you hate to think about yourself, when it come to layoff people because lack of work, compagny dont give a shit about you, business is business, so just enjoy the lack of manpoyer to increase your working condition

I think it is all about perspective. If you are unhappy....leave. I enjoy my job and lifestyle and I think I would have to agree with most of Coneheads points, except I don't have a stressful commute, I come home for lunch. :lol:

As for the grumpy people, I don't think that it is aviation that makes them pissed off. They just aren't satisfied unless they have something to grump about and they enjoy it even more if they can find someone elso to bitch with them. Trust me, we all work with at least one.

Sure the aviation industry is built around some strange shifts, but there are a lot of "normal" shifts out there too. You can't use your job as an excuse for your failing mariage. Sure, it may be a contributor, but I can just about guarantee you that there are other issues that are also the problem.

Most of the whining people would find somthing to bitch about no mater where they are. Unfortunatly, there will always be grumpy people.

I'm with ybp. There is always folks who bitch about everything, and if they run out of material, they will go out of there way to find more. Unfortunately, these are also the people who are the most vocal. Those of us who truly enjoy what we are doing are the quiet ones in the background who actually get the job done.

I have been in a job where life did suck, as soon as a better opportunity came my way, I left where I was and now enjoy Mon-Fri, 8-5, decent enough wage for a comfortable lifestyle, and a wife and little boy who greet me at the door every lunch hour and evening.

My commute is also easy, I don't even have to go into town to get home. :D

In a company that does not treat its employes well... if all the well adjusted,sensible,strong, capable,silent types move along to other better employment... who will be left?

Darwin says selection will occur, a higher ratio of Whiners? Complainers? will remain.

If lots of your fellow employees have these charecteristics it is quite likely a comment on the quality of the company as well as the character of the employees who act in this fashion.

Give me a break, I can tell from every post here.........

1. You don't work at YYZ (toronto international)
2. You are all in corporate or smaller for Aircrafts
3. None of you work in a major airline.

Am I bitter that I work consectutive nights? Damn right I am but I make more cash now then in corporate or smaller.

Before anyone starts with the bullshit of "If you don't like your job quit" most of the real world doesn't have that option and little planes don't pay what the big boys do.

I actually like my job believe it or not but yes I hate the shift and yes I hate the pay considering if the aircraft you signed crashes or worst crashes in a sub division your whole life is ruined all the while making less then the pumber fixing your toilet!

Wrong. I work at YYZ Pearson, and I work for a major airline, and I am pretty happy with life. Having a few close family members die in the recent past gives one a different perspective on what is important and what is not important.... don't sweat the small stuff... appreciate what you've got.
