Mount Royal College..2yr -> 4yr program?
Hi,
I heard (a rumor) that Mount Royal was thinking of extending their aviation diploma program to a 4 year program. Is this true? Does anyone have any information on this? If they do extend it, what year would the 4 year program start?
Thanks for your help.

I know for a fact that Mount Royal COllege is trying to upgrade to university status. The program i am currently in (broadcasting) is one that is slated to get upgraded, also nursing, justice studies, and a bunch of others that I have heard of. I know this because I am involved with the hockey team and they are planning to move from ACAC to CIS. So I wouldn't doubt it. What I would wonder is why you would want to take a 4 year program? Wouldn't that work out to be over 225,000 judging from their current costs? (I'm going of the top of my head here).
One of my instructors went to Mount Royal a few years ago. His 2 year diploma turned into a 4 year because the program was shut down by TC. Apparently they wouldn't let TC guys sit in on their ground school sessions, and they were also not meeting maitenance standards. This was a while back though, so hopefully they have straightened up a bit.

First I've heard of this... I'm afraid I'll have to take this one with a grain of salt

I want to die like my grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming in terror like his passengers...
If all you want to be is a pilot, why waste time & money getting a diploma or degree? Esp when the industry is moving as fast as it is right now.
Get as many hours, as fast as you can, and as cheaply as you can. It's all about how many hours you have. If you don't believe, look at the job ads here.
Nothing excepts hours in your logbook counts for squat ... except who you know, of course!
Which is why you should choose your uncles carefully. I might recommend the chief pilot of a major airline as your favorite uncle.
Personally, I think you'd be a lot better off buying a C152 and flying it for 500 hours and then selling it, instead of handing over $60K to some ripoff school. It would cost you a lot less, and you'd be in the market looking for a job a lot faster.
If all you want to do is loaf at school, well ...

Exactly Headly. And what contacts are you going to make flying your very own private 152.
On the other hand. Some flight schools Mt. Royal for example has 35 years (thousands) of grads around the world, and having that in common will get you jobs, or at thevery least a second look at your resume.

Havent heard of that ever happening. i too would take that with a grain of salt[/url]
