On their latest ad. Absolutely shameful. I hope that the position will remain vacant until they are willing to pay a decent wage.

It definitely is appalling. Someone will likely take it though. I've spent alot of time with certain companies who know how to get away with everything. Even during times like these.

Don't forget an 8k bond, don't forget about paying for your gear, don't forget unfulfilled promises regarding scheduling.

My FO on our king air makes the lower end of that range on the left coast, which is an area not known for its high wages....that's brutal for left seat.

And PA31 left seat makes more than the top of that pay scale at YVR running DHL to YYJ.

I made that in 1997 flying a Navajo and a Cheyenne... $32K and it was the starting salary for the left seat, no bonds...

Companies ONLY get money up front because some of us are MORONS! Every pilot who pulls out his/her wallet is ruining the entire industry for everyone that follows....this is YOUR FAULT!
In an interview, when you're asked to take out a loan, say.."F%CK YOU!" Then turn, and walk out the door! Grow some BALLS!

That wage would make sense for a FO.

"Voyageur Airways Limited also offers opportunities for advancement to our Dash 7, Dash 8 and CRJ pilot programs. "

Ahh, the dangling Dash.

Sounds great until you realise you have to go to Africa and become the lowest paid UN pilots on the CONTINENT! ($20,000 training bond!)

Stay away from Voyageur, every other company in northern Ontario is looking, just not advertising.

no wonder VAL is always looking for guys... with pay like that it doesn't take long to realize your getting jerked around and then having all your money taken from you.

Not only have they got you on the hook but they put a MINIMUM of $20,000 in their own bank account by not paying you what you're worth.

Its debatable whether VAL pays their overseas guys less than Trans Capital, but they're pretty bad too.

Anyone done the Africa thing with them? What is the pay/length of bond/requirements? Wait... better question, is their overseas operation better than their Canadian one?

This company is so cheap, they don't even have a single sign or company logo on ANY of their buildings in North Bay (Main base). NOTHING. Just a random door on one of the hangers with a code lock on it. Surrounded by a parking lot full of beaters cause their pilots can barely afford to eat.

But be careful, there's an imaginary bubble as you pass through the door and ego's start to touch the roof. Around the corner, sitting quietly on the ramp. Oh what a sight, if it were painted orange.. we'd know for sure it's a carrot.

STAY AWAY :!:

i dunno, if VAL wasn't such a d-bag company... i'd be tempted to go there JUST to fly an orange airplane. i think thats one of the coolest painted 200's around, right up there with the westex paint job.

Not too many months ago I was a flight instructor. I loved my job and desired to expand my instructing skills to include multi and MIFR training. I also couldn't wait until I became a Class I so that I could take on additional responsibilities. This never materialized and I couldn't seem to get over that 'hump'. I was therefore forced into looking for other type of flying work.
One of the many places I applied to was Voyageur. I did get a chance to have an interview with them. They told me that there was an $8,000 bond and then explained the details. As far as I was concerned this seemed quite reasonable. At the end of the year I would get the money back. So in other words it was not buying a job. I didn't harbor any secret plans to leave therefore I was fine with it.
Later the following week I was given an email response telling me that I was not successful in my interview and that I could apply with them at a later date. Thinking that I could not get hired even though I agreed to the idea of the $8,000 bond during my interview was extremely discouraging.
I personally see nothing wrong with a bond. No its not 'paying for a job' It's just a way to keep you honest. I'm very thankful that Voyageur turned me down. I'm now flying with an excellent company as an F/O on the DHC-8-100 and, no, I didn't pay for a bond.
