UAV's - California to the Arctic

Post by Tak »

Was just listening to plans about using UAV's to patrol and do the sovereignty thing in the north.

I believe they were also used last year to map the Esperanza fire in California.

I guess at 43,000 in cruise it would be no conflict with the Martin Mars...

Not to diminish the risk to our drivers up the north, but less risk higher up (altitude and latitude)?

So how do the unmanned things interface/communicate to ATS? Do they squawk IDENT etc like everyone else?

I would think the UAV's are fully TCAS equipped...

Northrop Grumman's Global Hawk is USAF service has been granted a Certificate of Authorization by the FAA to fly in US national airspace. It has been authorized for non-wartime operations in all but two of the United States FAA regions, as well as in international airspace, including Australia, Portugal, Spain, Scotland, Denmark, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Venezuela and Ecuador. Furthermore, the system can file its own IFR flight plans as well.
