If was a lay person, I would assume Iran is a peaceful nation, because it hasn't invaded another country in 300 years.

I guess she hasn't seen the thousands of graves of 7-14 year kids who cleared the mine fields for their army during the Iran-Iraq war. Perhaps she forgot about little "revolution" 20+ years ago.
And I supposed threatening Isreal with utter destruction is only an empty threat.

So Bush says, "...if you're interested in avoiding World War III . . . you ought to be interested in preventing [Iran] from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon." and according to the author he needs to be committed?!? WTF?

When will you peacnik people realize that not all problems will be solved over a cup of tea?

First off let me say to Nark...keep safe. I've had family in Bosnia and Afghanistan over the years and a few have had some close calls.

let me put out a scenario to those of you who say Iran is only being percieved as a threat because GWB is telling us they are a threat...imagine your next door neighbour decides to start sitting on his front porch with a loaded shot gun and starts pointing it at your house...they haven't threatend to shoot you...just pointing at you. To my understanding this isn't illegal but at the very least it would make me nervous and at the worst it would scare the living sh*t out of me.

Now imagine that shot gun is a nuclear missile that can wipe most of Isreal off the map and the guy holding it has said that Isreal should be wiped off the map...see why people see Iran as a threat?

Amadinjad (SP) is effing nuts...and yes I realize he does not have nuclear weapons right now...but if people are so blinded by their hatred for Bush that they can't see a nuclear Iran as absolutly terrifying then they probably shouldn't be out in public unspervised!

But if I am sitting on my front porch with a Howitzer pointed at his house, do you really think that he is going to pull the trigger? The Iranians are smart enough to realize that if they put a nuclear missile into Israel that they are finished in a big way. Ahmadinejad does not make the decisions, the clereics do. So even if he is as looney as the western media makes him out to be, it's not his call. We are all being cranked up by the Cheney administration for the last big push. Cross your fingers we don't fall for it this time.

I remember clearly with the Cheney administration first took power, that we were told that the most pressing issue was the need for a middile defence system. Then, the most pressing problem was China. Then, the most pressing problem was Afghanistan. Then, the most pressing problem was Iraq. Then, the most pressing problem is Iran.

Yeah.....whatever. I'm with you. You tell me what to believe and I will never question it. I will be a good citizen and believe what the most powerful news source in the world (US State Department) tells me to believe.

It alarms me that of the 198 countries in the world, Americans zero in on Iran. Why?

Because they are told to.

That's some good editing BMC... There are two sides and I think that is what most americans completely miss - they are blinded by their own sense of righteousness.

The other thing I would mention about that story is that Iran doesn't have a "shotgun" so the point is completely irrelevant. And in this country it is illegal to point a gun at a person.

As usual, both ends of the political spectrum are out to lunch. Bush and Cheney are nuts, and would make good ward mates with Swede and his soulmates. They could spend their days debating WMD and conspiracy theories through the haze of anti-psychotic meds.

The US needs good small c leadership, which in their political world is almost always the democrats. They need a white house filled with a visionary construction team capable of building bridges and alliances. Right now, they have a demolition gang bent on destroying everything they see as wrong in the world, all the while offering nothing positive.

When the dust settles, Bush will go down as the worst president in US history, and one of the worst national leaders in the history of the world. His legacy will be one of destruction; his economy, other nations, and if he goes after Iran, possibly the planet.

Do I enjoy it here in Iraq? Hell no, I can’t wait to take the freedom bird home. However I can see that I’m needed here. And I will do everything in my power to ensure that my mission is successful, without violating any laws.

I have the right to stop that person pointing that weapon at me. So why can’t a nation? We all have seen how well UN sanctions work.

Iran is a threat, not just because my boss says so. Take off the rose colored glasses for a minute and realize some problems are bigger than when Starbucks runs out of Mochacino.

The Corps has a lot to offer in the graduate degree area. I’ll be sure to let you know if I decide to pursue a doctorate.

So...In a nut shell (pun intended.) Iran doesn't have an Atomic bomb pointed at anyone, but if they did, which they don't, it would be pointed at Israel. The USA is using that reason as it's justification to attack Iran.

Has anyone asked why no other countries are jumping up and down? If Europe is under threat, Sarkowzi would take every opportunity to beat his chest. What about the UK?

Maybe somebody should call them.

Iran is definately cause for concern for world security. But they don't scare me as much as what Bush/Cheney are capable of doing as their time in office runs out. They created fake intelligence to sell a purely personal war against Iraq to their own people and the rest of the world, so what else are they prepared to do?

Whoever is left to pick up the pieces after they leave has a big job ahead of them. Is Hillary Clinton up to it?

Admittedly, I'm not a big Bush fan, but; Is Bush the worst president in history?? Heavens no! Jimmy Carter is WAY out in front on that one... And there were many others on the list. I wish Bush were a shrewder more erudite speaker instead of a drawling Texan, but he could be worse too...(see J. Carter above)

I think some of you are guilty of selective myopia when it comes to current events, such as hoping Hillary can sort it all out. It was only 3 weeks ago when she said that she would not promise to have troops out by the end of her first term in office (2012). And yes, she voted for the war. She is also fully prepared to go to war with Iran.
Someone (BMC?) said that if Iran were a real threat, Sarkozi would be hopping up and down about it. But it was only 2 weeks ago that he warned Iran of war if they did not drop their nuclear plans.

I think you'll miss GW Bush when he's gone because you won't have anyone to blame random stuff on like Global Warming, hurricane Katrina, AIDS in Africa, war for oil, etc... I hope a democrat gets in so you're forced to engage in constructive criticism of policy, and realize that a looming world war is not some cazy right wing conspiracy. I don't want to see more war either, but we need solutions, not just self-righteous I-told-you-so's.

Also, anyone suggesting Nark needs to get 'educated' needs to show a lot more respect. He's probably seen more in his time in the middle east than you've seen in your entire life. Even if you did spend 3-8 years in university studying liberal arts and discussing the evils of US imperialism in ... Grenada!?!

BTW, did anyone follow the Iranian/Venezuelan sponsored conference on Islamism and Socialism this past week in Tehran. It's all about uniting the masses of the world behind a common system other than capitalism. If not, go read up on it....very prescient.

Sometimes I really wonder what life must have been back during the early stages of WW2. I bet many Americans and others around the world thought Hitler was just making empty threats and that it wasn't necessary to keep a close eye on him. "No need to worry folks, he's just bluffing, spouting out notin but bullsh!t. Them concentration camp stories are notin but propaganda to support a war."

Today, nobody of an intelligent or sound mind questions whether or not it was worth going after the likes of Hitler, Mussollini, or Stallin.

Perhaps in the future we will feel the same about Saddam or Ahmadinejad (aka, president Tom).

Here is more evidence of bush and cheneys collective insanity. I don't expect this sort of article comes as much of a surprise to anyone, that an attack on Iran is going to draw Russia into the fray. If that is not insane, I would dearly like to know what is? Bush's war talk is probably not likely to ever evolve into an attack on Iran, because too many in the military know what the outcome could be. Nonetheless, as bush continues to have the likes of preacher John Hagee whispering in his ear about how bush needs to bring about armageddon, who knows? That is why there exists a dire need to lock both him and cheney away in a mental institution - indefinitely.
