New Licence

Post by who me ? »

A letter in the mail to-day , from T.C. ?
I open it up , an a new Licence, and the only change I can see is, is that it has, "Language Proficiency - ENGLISH ".

Well OK , but who decided I was proficient , in English , and not French , or both ? Anyone else have this on there Licence , or an I behind the times ? ( again ) :?:

Or this this were our $55 licence fee is going? Sounds a bit like the gun registry ?

Nope, your not behind the times ....

I recently renewed my Group 1 and to my suprise, "Language Proficiency - ENGLISH", was added there as well.

As for the new Language Proficiency, it was mentionned a little while ago in one of TC's Newletters (1/2007 page 5 ... looked it up, jeez i was bored 'k) that they would be doing this as well as going to the "passport style" of licenses and ratings.

As for other Language Proficiencies .... I'm looking into it to add French, will have to call TC and see what the scoop is.

The only language that is of concern is English, being that it is the international language of aviation. The motivation behind this is due to the growth of international airlines, ICAO is pushing for more english proficient pilots overseas. Being that Canada is an ICAO country we are towing the line in that in 2008 all pilots must be proficient in english. It's going to be just as important to the license as passing the medical. I believe that current licensed pilots for the most part will be grandfathered but new applicants will have to undergo an exam with an approved examiner to demonstrate their proficency.

wow, in northern quebec last year, I was the only pilot in the area that spoke any english at all. It was strange but kinda cool. I flew really low to avoid the helicopters on the opposite GPS track to Matush Lake. Otherwise, I would be forced to yell out "TABERNAAAACK!"
