YXU instructor

Post by cdnry »

Hi

I am about to start my flying lessons really soon, and I will be doing them at the London airport. I'm not sure about whether to do Empire Aviation or Aero Academy, I can't really find out how to tell which if either is better. I had been told to try and find a good instructor, such as one who teaches topics while enroute to the training area, rather than sitting around and using that as relaxing time. So I guess i'm just wondering if anyone knows any good instructors at either of these schools that you would be willing to recommend?

Thanks

I don't know of the instructors, but I took a good look at their websites and I must say I'm impressed. Once you start your training, keep me up to date on the quality on either of these two! Cheers!

Try the St. Thomas Flight Centre..

http://www.learntofly.on.ca

It is a pretty busy place and known to bring in a lot of people from London. You don't get the politics and BS that you get with most London schools. It's a great place to learn and all the instructors (all very experienced) use to be in YXU and decided that St.Thomas was a much better place to learn and be. Go down there for a visit before you make any decisions. You will be glad you did.

Whoever told you that is very wrong. If I'm teaching you something new I want your attention and you to be able to take notes and ask questions, not focusing on keeping the blue side up. There is a reson they are called Prep GROUND instruction.

Same reason that the instructor shouldn't debrief on the taxi back in. Wait until the prop stops spinning, or taxi and let the student sit there and listen to you, but best if you can do it after. Again letting them take notes so when they go home and review they have something to review.

You may not think of it now, but that time back and forth from the practice area is useful. Often you are talking to ATC and flying the plane. Thats a lot for most student pilots (at least at first). No need to make it more complicated.
