Ramp for SIC or PIC?

Post by Quagmire »

What would be the better situation. Both jobs are on the ramp to start out with, first ramp to FO in a turbine (PC-12, Otter etc...) second is PIC on something small (206, PA-31 etc...). Which would be most desirable?

go for the ramp to PIC on the 206 it will be way better for you than FO on the PC12 or and otter I think because you will move up faster. You will need PIC time to move to the left seat and you may have to fly the 206 anyway to get it so you might as well start there.

yup what PT said, The bigger/newer tin might seem more appealing but you'll never get into the left seat with 2000TT all as an F/O. PIC is the name of the game when starting out.

what PT and SR said....PIC.....if you fly 2 years of PIC in 206 then navajo, you will be way better off than if you had 2 years of PC12 F/O, and Twotter F/O. DOn't let the bigger/turbine metal lead you astray. In order to be captain on those larger turbines you are going to need the PIC experience! Start learning to make your own decisions earlier on.

It still blows me away how many 3000 hour + pilots I work with who can't get the A license because they don't have enough PIC. (Night XC PIC being the real crunch) A grand of PIC will help a lot more than a grand of SIC IMO.
