Post by paddy »

Looking for a full rundown or how the Port systems works and if a new hire is able to bid locations right away.

English exam completed and nearly failed, although a nearly fail is still a pass. Now for the answer to the question at hand...

heheh, yesh, engrish ish a musht. Relax, Foxe, I was just teasing paddy. :smt040

Umm, what was the question again? Oh yeah, 'yes' was the answer. And, the Port system works very nicely. How it works is you put in your YYC bid, since we all are 'based' in YYC, and we submit a secondary bid(it's optional) for our specific port. They(not sure who these magical 'they' people are, but...) try to fill the port bid as best they can, and the remainder is filled in with YYC pairings. In the end, we commute less, are home more, and less expense due to less commuting. The company saves by having lower hotel costs(to a lesser extent), and less deadheading crews on board(the greater saving i think). Best part of less deadheading, is we can sell more seats.

Don't count on the port's too much. Figure on commuting to YYC for at least 80% of the time.

i'd say it depends on which port you are at. I now commute 50% of the time.
