Re: Flight sim x or 2004 - hurry going to buy like in 20 min
which one is best for IFR simulation?
Re: Flight sim x or 2004 - hurry going to buy like in 20 min
well just go the 2004 for now only $20.. instead of $60

2004, FSX is still pretty bleeding edge. Unless you have a super-computer or know how to tweak the configuration files it runs like a slideshow on the average computer. FS2004 runs smooth,is cheap and all of the navaids are there.

You can add updated (near current) navaids so the version doesn't matter, but most people find that FS2004 will run better on average systems where as FSX takes much more 'juice'.

i dont think it matters. the difference is graphics and terrain features, which you dont need if you're trying to simulate IFR.

With the updates for FSX, it runs 110% better than when I originally purchased it...
FSX on Vista, with a proper Vista built machine it runs fantastic... beautifully smooth.
For those trolling the threads, those who bash Vista on the web are those who tried to upgrade with their old crappy computer. Spend the money on a good computer built to run Vista and you will not be disapointed.
I haven't had a program freeze or the computer hang/crash since May.(when i bought the computer)

Navaids can be downloaded at any of the flightsim dedicated websites.. they all have a file library you will have to search if you're desired "testing grounds" don't have the aids there...
http://www.avsim.com
http://www.flightsim.com
those would be my 2 choices for freeware addons...
Good luck, don't bother with FSX unless you have the latest and greatest tech either... for what you're wanting to do, FSX is not required...

How to add navaids? What YWGVOR said and...
http://www.fsnavigator.com/index.htm - for add-on flight planning tool and
http://www2.navigraph.com/www/default.asp - for nav data updates.
Mind you FSnavigator (payware) is for FS2004 as its not available for FSX yet and Navigraph is also payware. Without updated nav data FS2004 default will have the ones from 2003 so only the older plates will match things completely. I have FS2004 and current plates and with the above everything 'fits', even new intersections.

2004 + addons = superior sim. Throw in some throttle quads and yokes with pedals .. you got yourself a minisim
