Medical Validity at age 39?

One of my students has asked the question "Is my medical valid for 5 years or 2 if I get it at age 39?"

So I've gone over the CARS until my eyes bled, but still could not find the answer! I would suspect that once he hit's 40, he would have two years after THAT until it's expired, effectively making it a 3 year term, but I need a solid answer. Any help would be welcomed. . . . and perhaps some visine for my eyes

Once he turns 40, wouldn't it just switch and be valid for 2years starting from the 'first day following the month' of the medical? Did a search, couldn't find anything else in the forums... I'd appreciate any references! How about class 1's?

Nope, he falls under the rules for his current medical; once that expires he then switches to the over 40 rules.

Yes I have to agree on the 5 years. I did that myself. I had about two years left on my medical. At about 1 month prior to turning 40 had medical done again. The person at transport told me I still had two years left. Then I explained my intentions. She checked...and said yep that'll work.

For those of you who live close to an international border and fly across it occasionally, check the asterisk on the 60 month time. It is only valid for 24 months when outside of Canada. So the possibility arises that you might not be legally licenced and your insurance company might walk away from you if you have an accident.
If you fly regularly in the states you might want to keep your medical within the 24 months.
