Hello,
I used to look at this web-site a bit, but don't see the medical section anymore?
I am slowly finishing my flying training up, (Commercial) and would possibly one day like to be an instructor or go up north and bush fly.
Does any one here or have friends who fly have the peanut allergy or bee sting where they need to carry around an epi-pen?
I carry one around because I was told I had a bad reaction when I was 13 to a bee sting. But I really dont know!!! Will that hinder my chances at flying? Being stung in a plane is rare but still, if anything I think you would get it on the ground.. just looking to see if anyone has an opinion or related experience in this and how it affects a flying career.
thank you to everyone

Re: Allergies
I have a peanut and bee sting allergy as well and it has not hindered my career at all. Flying with an epi-pen is definetly a responisble thing to do. My peanut allergy, is not very severe, almost negligable. As for the bee stings, i've never been stung, I am just going by what the doctors tell me Could be a suprise one day.
I guess it really depends on how severe the allergies are. If you passed your medical, I believe you are good to go

Re: Allergies
I got stung by a bee this summer in a PC12 at FL250 and it sucked! First time I have gotten stung since I was about 8 years old. Talk about luck. Come to think about it, the mark is still on my arm. Stupid bee.

yeah if you're going to work the bush, you'll have tonnes of wasps, bees, black flies, horse flies and pine beatles in your cockpit...I wouldn't say it's rare.
check with an allergist to see if you're really allergic to bees.
