New Goose?
Company Revives the Goose
One of the most iconic amphibs ever produced may be back in production by the end of the year. According to The Greensboro/Winston-Salem Business Journal, a Gibsonville, N.C., company, Antilles Seaplanes, is hoping to have FAA approval to begin production of the twin-engine flying boat by the end of June. Company co-founder V.I. Manuel told the Business Journal there's major interest in the revival of the Goose, with inquiries (but no firm orders) coming from Malaysia to Alaska. Manuel said vintage Gooses are much sought after and in short supply. The new Goose will look like the old one but will benefit from 60 years of technological advancement.
Purists can order their Goose with 450-hp Pratt and Whitney R-95 radials, but if they really want it on the step in a hurry, a pair of PT-6s with 680 shp can also be mounted. The new aircraft makes use of carbon fiber for enhanced corrosion resistance and, of course, there's a full array of electronics on board (no glass panels, though). The Web site does not include pricing information.

You may want to check the date on that artical- I think they spent all their seed money on tooling and have since given up and sold all the old goose stuff.

Yes, I can see this is old news - just got it today in one of those industry newsletters, obviously hurting for news.
Sorry, guys, for wasting your time.

If I had the money and wanted a personal toy it would be the Turbo Goose hands down over the T.O.
The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.
After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

ANTILLES SEAPLANES LLC is currently developing the tooling & infrastructure needed to start manufacturing completely new G-21 series “Goose” seaplanes. The Antilles Goose is the only commercially viable, multi-engine amphibian available anywhere in the world today. From Alaskan fishing to the Amazon rain forest… nothing will offer the speed, rough water and crosswind capabilities, payload, safety, corrosion protection, strength, and operational economy of the Antilles Goose

Re: New Goose?
Isn't there a Mallard out there with hardpoints under the wings for Jetskis? The Turbo Mallard would be an excellent retirement RV! Hope the bring it back too!
Sorry,,, just dreaming!

Cat Driver had a great idea back in the day. His suggestion was to outfit a PBY with the big PT 6's like the Basler 3 only in Canso form. Do the interior up real nice ... like a flying brothel.... ok it was to be a flying brothel. Then in the summer he and the girls would fly around to all the outpost camps up north and make a killing. In the winter he'd take it down south and island hop on the profits. Ah the good life.. Pimp and pilot all rolled into one....

Re: New Goose?
The Goose is one of my all time favorite airplanes. My dad logged a bunch of time on RCAF 926 and 941 during the war. 926 now sits as a wreck at Port Hardy. Daryl Smith was kind enough to let me take the engine mount as a souvenier.
Perfect airplane.
Perfect airplane.

I think its an Albatross with the jetskis on the hardpoints. It used to be in Victoria.

Driving Rain, even though I didn't get the flying pleasure palace into operation you have to admit that Andy and I sure had the crew to work the project.
You do remember the flack that came down when OMNR saw the pictures of all the strippers draped over our PBY at the tanker base in Thunder Bay?

Andy was a master. I remember picking him up at the motel on our way to work. The door swings wide open and Andy struts out, looking past him on the bed is this lovely girl totally nude in obvious extasy, Andy jumps in the car and announces to us all that the girl was getting married that very day to some guy who wouldn't or couldn't perform one of Andy's specialties.. . wrote:Driving Rain, even though I didn't get the flying pleasure palace into operation you have to admit that Andy and I sure had the crew to work the project.

He phoned me from Florida a couple of years back, I darned near soiled myself when he told me he was getting married.
The MNR has zero sense of ha ha when it comes to that stuff. The photo's of that event are the stuff of legend now.

Re: New Goose?
I found out there is a grave risk in keeping such treasures.Do you still have any?
We had one of them taped to the instrument panel in the bomber......one day my wife was visiting me at one of the bases and by accident happened to look into the cockpit and when she spotted the picture ( on Andys side of the center of the instrument panel ) she went mental, completely lost it.
If you think OMNR has no sense of ha ha they have nothing on my wife.....
So no I don't have any pictures saved.....only in my mind.

All this brings back memories about my fifteen years driving those air tankers.
When I was in the process of getting rid of that piece of human garbage that was in charge of OMNR air division for you guys he used a rather stupid accusation against me when he wrote to the Minister of Forests or what ever the title was in those days.
He stated to the minister that he had banned me from flying for the OMNR because....
Quote:
Mister . is not suitable for employment as a water bombing captain with OMNR because he has displayed " poor interpersonal skills " and " He is not a team player "
Then how come I could recruit a flock of women to take off all their clothes and pose for all those pictures?
Something was wrong with his claim to the minister.
And the minister got rid of him so that proved he was wrong about me.

. your not the only one whose been branded by this kind of statement. I feel fortunate to also be in your company.
The guy who said that about me was an assistant regional director. (that's gumitup speak for barking dog) He'd never met me. I was devistated, that's what they want to do. For the most part they are bullies or worse.
I believe that statements like that are in a book someplace and they pull them out to justify their stupidity. In my case which was connected to yours when you sic'd the Ontario Ombudsman on them. I was interviewed and defended you. This is a no no in the simple service.
Long story short they had to fold the tent. I was also more fortunate than you because I was already on staff for a number of years and had the protection of a union.[/b]
I really think knowing you like I do, that this place isn't a place where you'd have been happy, so count your lucky stars things went the way they did in your case. It's funny how that works eh. You got to take a different road a road that was in many ways much more fullfilling.
You are a fighter and stand up for yourself. I thank you and a couple of other guys I know for teaching me what a backbone is for. I've learned that not every leader is in a leadership position.
I was up to the local hospital the other day and guess who I saw? It was Mr. Assistant Regional Director. Looking like death warmed over. I of course ignored him and pretended for all the world Like I didn't know him. What goes around comes around... sometimes

Thanks for telling it like it was.
For someone who displayed poor interpersonal skills I managed to rid your system of a human maggot that held one of the top jobs in the OMNR.
Sure there will always be this type in these government positions, but that does not mean that they be allowed to bully their employees.
Anyhow as you already know the Minister of Natural Resources or what ever the name was stepped in and forced OMNR to offer me a permanent position on the CL215.
I very politely sat through the dog and pony show for about an hour and a half and finally told them that they could shove their offer where the sun didn't shine in language that even those morons understood.
The government bureaucrat that the Minister had sent from Toronto to make sure OMNR did what they were told to do fu.kin near fainted dead away on the floor, I actually felt sorry for her.
Anyhow I hope all you guys have a beer every once in a while and drink to my sucess in ridding your operation of at least one asshole at the top.
