The term Global warming seems to confuse people. The term that should have been used is global climate destabilization. All it takes is a small increase in temperature (below 5 C) to change our climate patterns. In other words fronts can shift from their regular patterns (including cold ones), snow fall patterns therefore being affected etc (there's a lot more to that, but let's keep it simple). A couple of degrees won't make it FEEL warmer ALL the time, but it will create unusual weather even in winter and not necessarily warmer. Some regions will have stronger more violent cold fronts as well as MORE snow storms hitting their regions.

An increase of a few degrees won't simply make for pleasantly warmer temperatures around the globe. Even a modest rise of 1.1°-1.7°C could have dramatic effects. In the last 10,000 years, the Earth's average temperature hasn't varied by more than (1.0°C). Temperatures only 5°-9°F cooler than those today prevailed at the end of the last Ice Age, in which the Northeast United States was covered by more than 3,000 feet of ice. Yeah, you read that right. Warming leads to ice ages (at least all the ones that have happened on this planet).

But hey, you probably already knew that, because if you have your opinion on the subject it must be based on facts, not personal uneducated observations. Apparently your observations outweigh all the ones being measured all around the world. Any other insight you'd like to share with the rest of us?

WOW, Corporate Joe. You need to lighten up a bit and enjoy the cold.

We BS about global warming because it is something that people who know something about it (apparently YOU) get all pissy about. I do like to see how quickly you clarified exactly what is happening with "climate destabilization".

Thanks for that....

You may be BS'ing (to use your term) about it, but the original poster is not. He actually believes what he writes and thinks it to be true. There are MANY other topics like this one where he expressed his "opinions" and his stance is clear: Man can not affect God's creation the earth, therefore global warming can not be real. Using that basic belief he uses his own skewed personal observations to try and justify what he already believes completely ignoring all of the contrary evidence in the process. You may have missed those topics, and that's why you think he's making a joke. At least you have enough common sense to realize that someone writing something like that MUST be joking, but believe me, he is not.

On a side not Please feel free to continue joking about it all you want. If I think it's funny I'll laugh. However just as you have the right to joke about it, I have the right to bark at ignorance.

Listen "O high and Mighty", if you could not see the sarcastic tone in the original post you must be an idiot. Everyone else picked up on the joke right away.

Some of us have to work in these freezing conditions regularily, and joking about it helps ease the freeze! In your fancy corporate world you probably have no idea what working out in the cold is do you??? If you can't keep your yap shut and let the rest of us have a bit of fun without ruining things with your stupid scientific data, than PISS OFF!! Find a different forum to annoy.

Further, I do think man can affect God's creation..world was perfect until Adam and Eve came and mucked it all up after all.

Lastly, my skepticism is based on science and pure rationale rather than theology, but my faith has tought me reason which is why I'm cautious of your fear-mongering fiasco.

A) Taxiway Matthew you're not being honest. I will not dig through the many many pots on the subject to prove you wrong, but that is NOT what you have said before unless you have changed your stance (which it is clear you have not). You claim using reason for your stance, and doubting science on the subject, but that does not have much value from someone who also thinks the earth was made 5000 years ago and denies the theory of evolution. You can't really understand the depth of the science of global warming if you think Adam and Eve were the first inhabitants of the world. Clearly YOUR science needs a refresher course.

B) Tiggermoth; you may think I am Jackass because of my dry reaction to the original post and that's fine. But ask yourself this, if my tone made me a Jackass because of the original post, what does your reaction to my post make you? Also, just as you are mistaken about the tone of the original post, you are also mistaken about my work experience in cold weather (or were those incorrect statements also jokes I missed). Finally I suggest you re-read my post. I have said that you can joke about it all you want, but I'll say it again because you missed it the first time: your liberty to joke about it does not outweigh my liberty to bark at ignorance.

No it's not. Antarctica is the coldest place on earth with a temperature recorded of -89C (-129F)
http://www.extremescience.com/coldestplace.htm
http://www.helium.com/tm/430474/coldest ... -antarctic

The Russian station that recorded those temperatures regularly gets reading between -30 and -60 (no wind chill).

If you're talking about the coldest inhabited place on earth then that's in Verkhoyansk, Russia, in February 7 1892, where it reached a chilly -90 ° Fahrenheit (-68 °C). If you're talking about the coldest average place in Canada, then that's Eureka, Nunavut, Canada where the daily average temperature is -19.7 °C (-3.46 °F). Whatever it is you're talking about, it's wrong (especially that last sentence  ).

Oh wait, another joke I missed right?

Corporate Joe, I never said I wasn't a jackass, in fact I am proud to be one!! 8)
Now, "your liberty to joke about it does not outweigh my liberty to bark at ignorance." What kind of BS is that. Everyone is entitled to there opinion, I think you have said this before yourself. We have expressed our opinions, you have expressed yours, great. Where the problem is, is that you think that it is your duty to tell everyone else that our opinions are wrong and yours is right, probably the fastest way to piss of anyone. As far as barking at ignorance, get a life, everyone knows about global warming and its causes/effects, you can't not know with all the media attention these days.

Finally, "Finally I suggest you re-read my post. I have said that you can joke about it all you want," yeah well than how about letting us do it. Refer back to my second post about letting the rest of us have our fun without you running off at the mouth.

Oh, I forgot, I was going to ask, When you get into the fancy corporate world, do they surgically remove your sense of humour or is corporate work so shitty that it leaves on its own??

You're proud to be a jackass, you call me a jackass, does that mean you're proud of me?

We're not talking opinions we're talking facts. If you like the color blue over red, that's your opinion and you are entitled to it. I can tell you I like red better and it ends there. If you think 1 and 1 is 3, and you come on a public forum to say 1 and 1 is 3, then you are exposing yourself to jackasses like me who can, and most probably will, correct you. If your idea of having fun is stating incorrect facts, that's fine, as long as you accept that my idea of having fun is correcting them (according to what you say). You'll also notice that I bark at specific posters on specific topics. If that pisses them off, that's too bad, no one likes to be proven wrong. That's a risk we all expose ourselves to when we state our easily refutable personal beliefs as if they were facts.
tiggermoth wrote: As far as barking at ignorance, get a life, everyone knows about global warming and its causes/effects, you can't not know with all the media attention these days.
I wish... The reality is that not everyone knows about global warming it's causes and effects. Clearly you've missed a lot of posts which I guess explains your reaction in some way. The original poster doesn't believe in it's causes or effects, and that's something he was stating as a fact. If your interpretation is still that he was trying to be funny, then I suggest you make a small search of the forums (I sure as hell won't do it for you) and you look it up. The original statement was not an attempt at humor, it was a misinformed fact, that I CHOSE to correct. I may do it again, I may not. It's my right to do so, and nothing you post here, no matter how personal you try to make it will change that.
tiggermoth wrote: Finally, "Finally I suggest you re-read my post. I have said that you can joke about it all you want," yeah well than how about letting us do it. Refer back to my second post about letting the rest of us have our fun without you running off at the mouth.
Again, this seems to be the hard part for you. Do it all you want, but I get to do it all I want also. That's how freedom of expression works. It goes both ways. Nevertheless, I'll be honest with you, that's kind of beside the point. If the original post was really an attempt at humor, I never would have posted (even though I have the right to as much as you do). You don't have to believe that, but there's nothing else I can say or do to make you understand that. The only way is that you go look up his other posts on the topic and see for yourself.
tiggermoth wrote: Oh, I forgot, I was going to ask, When you get into the fancy corporate world, do they surgically remove your sense of humour or is corporate work so shitty that it leaves on its own??
Trying to make this personal doesn't make your arguments stronger or mine weaker, and I am sorry to inform you that I won't be doing the same. The only thing you are doing by trying to make this personal is increasing the likeliness of "me running my mouth" to correct you.

I wasn't speaking about being the coldest place ever but on Tuesday it was the coldest place on the planet. If you think the southern hemisphere beats out the northern hemisphere in January you better stop reading all those climate change books while standing on your head.

I guess I should have mentioned that I meant on a specific day. I just assumed that people would be smart enough to figure that bit out. Apparently I was wrong.

Current weather forcast for Vostok Antarctica Friday a nice sunny day with a high of -47 and a low of -52.

PS: You need to start reading those books more than I need to stop ;)

...over the last 10,000 years temps have gone up? Wow, good claim. When was the thermometer invented? 1724 in case you didn't know, which isn't 10,000 years ago. And even then I assume global temperatures were not recorded until many hundreds of years later. In fact i would guess that accuarate global temps have only been recorded within the last 50-100 years.
I take issue with claims about "facts" that have no basis for being factual. You read it in a book somewhere i know but come on man. I believe climate destabilization has been going on for 10,000 years but just be careful about repeating "facts" when they aren't. Don't misinterpret someone's theory for fact. Raydar;

You don't need a thermometer to accurately measure the mean temperature of the globe. Don't take my word for it, read about it yourself. The same way it's easy to accurately measure the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere of the last 650 000 years (crazy eh), it's possible through empirical observation to measure temperature averages.

However, that's beside the point. The black and white fact that is being corrected is the initial statement that "global warming is not occurring" because of a cold day in Regina and some snow in Vancouver. The argument was "hey look it's cold today therefore the globe is not warming". You don't need a science degree to refute that belief. But we better not get too deep into this, because if we do we'll be ruining tiggermoth's fun and games, and we wouldn't want to do that.
