Aries Aviation

I was just wondering if you had to live in Calgary to work for these folks, or if you could live anywhere in canada near a major hub and commute to the job site?

They prefer you to live in YYC, although you can live in other places.

Yes live where ever you like but if you go that route Calgary is defined at home base for the company so if for what ever reason the company needs you in Calgary ie. training, to fly a job out of Calgary or within 80 kms you are expected to get there on your own dollar and accomadation on your own dollar also. For jobs in all other locations the company covers all expenses.

I'll probly have to post a new topic on this, but... does any body have details about firefly aviation?. They seem to be stealthy with info.
typical stuff like
ac types
pay
rotation
general type of work
where they fly, what they do. you know, basically any company details. I have been trying to dig stuff up, but i come up with nothing.

2 or 3 Navajo's
1 C206
Pay is INdustry Standard for geophys...meaning...min $200/day for Capt on Navajo...more with experience
Single pilot ops
rotation is variable, but I think they try for 2 months on, one month off....how often that actually happens, though I don't know
all survey work, and as far as I know, it's all Aeromag
they fly all over, but mostly in Canada...they have worked overseas, and will probably again in the future...I haven't talked to them in a while, so I don't know what's going on there at the moment
pm me for contacts

I would say in general, it's an okay operation trying to be really good. I know they try, but are sometimes limited by their small size and the fact that they don't have their own AMO. If they had their own AMO, they'd be laughing. Depending on an outside AMO for maintenance in this business is not ideal.

Otherwise, great people, good owners, and fun flying.

Helped out with Fireflies a year ago.
3 Navajo's
206
Nice hangar and the info already posted was pretty close to accurate for Flying side.
The owner is a straight up no nonsense kind of guy. Yes, they are a good group of guys and pretty flexible if you have family emergencies or such.
They do do some overseas work, but like mentioned earlier the concentration is Canada.
When I last talked to them they were looking to do some flying in Tanzania, don't know if that is still in the works though! They would definitely look over a Good resume though. Not sure what the mins are though as I am on the maintenance end of things. He was also pushing around the idea of starting an AMO but, don't know if that has happened or not! He had/has a really good working relationship with the Third Party Maintenance outfit that he was using.
Can't hurt to drop them a resume, you will definitely see alot of flight time if your qualified in their eyes. They are a bunch of good eggs to working there, you wouldn't be disappointed anyway.

Scouting report on Firefly by Wallypilot and MCRS have it about right. Have talked with a couple guys who work there and the starting rate for a survey competent Navajo pilot is $300/day plus per diem and benefits. Flying is throughout Canada and the US, internationally they have worked in Africa, Central and South America.
