Women's Ski Jumping; Vancouver 2010

Did anyone catch the "rally" today in Vancouver, meant to support the women who want ski jumping included in the 2010 games?

Must have been a slow news day. There were about eight placard-holding people present at the "rally". I'm not kidding. Check the news footage for yourself. What a joke.

Goes to show about how important this issue is with Canadians. But despite that, they've filed a complaint with the Human Rights Board. Give me a f'ing break...

A bunch of girlies having fun jumping would be good sport especially if they have to wear those aerodynamic suits .

I can remember some guys saying "girls in hockey???" and those girls have now won gold and more important they had had fun doing it .

I'm pretty sure that no one, including the IOC, is actually against the inclusion of women's ski jumping.

What the ralliers always fail to mention amidst all the whining is that hardly any countries actually participate in this sport. I can see why they want to host it, as it would likely be a bronze, sliver and gold for Canada.

Womans hockey in the olympics is a joke. How many times are you expected to watch the Canadian woman beat the yanks in the finals while the scand countries fight it out for the bronze. You'll find better quality hockey watching a peewee AAA boys tounament.

Correction: With the exception of women's figure skating AND beach volleyball, men's sports are the only ones worth watching.

Ah the Olympics! Bringing humanity together for sports. I have a problem with any "sport" you can actually play while holding a beer. If you can drink a beer WHILE the "match" is being played, it's NOT a "sport", but a pastime. Curling?
Tennis? A bunch of spoiled rich brats "playing" for their country....yah, right!
And, if tennis, why not golf? Oh yah, you can have a beer in the cart.
Have to agree with one of ya though, women's hockey is a bloody joke! Running up the score is not very "sporting" of the Canadians. We all know you can slaughter Botswana, so what's the point?

My first post remarked upon the complete lack of interest shown by Canadians as far as this issue is concerned, and had nothing to do with how I would fare against them in their sport. How I might fare against a skirt on a ski jump is about the most irrelevant thing I can imagine. Talk about not GARA...

And as The Globe and Mail remarked in their editorial Saturday, this whole thing is stupid. It's just another case of everyone trying to pretend that we're all equal in our abilities/capabilities, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, etc. And that is a load of horseshit, whether it's politically correct to say so or not.

The way I heard it was that the Womens Ski Jumping folks did not meet the technical standards as far as governing body or other such official organizations / competition structure, that all the other "sports" ( define that as you may ... ) had when they came to the IOC for Olympic inclusion.

My take - a few feminist activists decided that becasue this issue looks good in a 10 second sound bite and could be spun as discriminating against women based on sex alone, that they would take up this cause and get some media. The reality is probably that the women affected know better, wish they had their poop inna group to get certified/accepted/included. Even if they did, its probably too late for 2010. A shame, as those at their peak now, will probably not be by 2014.

Honestly, if its an olympic sport, there should be a womens version.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the issue was not enough competitors. I mean really whats the point if only 4 countries compete and you basically medal by default. Olympics are about money, like everything else on TV, and this will not generate it.
