April 7th course
Well, I got the email today... pretty happy about it too!
I guess my prop flying days are almost over... I'm going to miss them, especially on an icy ramp! And I'll have to change my signature also...!!
But I'm pretty sure I will get used to bridges and APU's.
Anyone else got the good news? And I've heard rumours that this would be the last course for a while... Anyone heard different?
Anyways, good luck to all in the process... the feeling when you get in is awesome!!
Cheers!

WOW that's a long wait. I interviewed in January and I guess I'll be waiting until the fall now - if the news is good.
Congrats!
Congrats!
Re: April 7th course
Congrats man. I'm still waiting myself.
Is April 7th the last course for a while? Why aren't there any over the summer? and one more... Does anyone know when they fire up again in the fall? Good luck to all waiting...

Re: April 7th course
Training over the summer will be limited as most of the new hires will be seeing the Embraer and the 175 simulator will be taken offline for a month to upgrade it to a 190 with the latest software upgrade. After that sim is operational the second sim will go down for the same software upgrade. I imagine that the training department gets a little thinner during BBQ season too. Hence, the training department will only have access to one sim for an estimated 2-3 months for all the Captain upgrades and recurrent training so they are scaling back on the new hire training for now. That said, we just received our 45th 190 a couple weeks ago so we have all the Embraer's on the property. Retirements are around 110 this year so they will need to hire at least that number.
Welcome aboard to those who got a course date! Let me know when the beer n chicken wing night is at Arizonas...

Re: April 7th course
Couldn't they run courses for RPs while the Embraer sims are limited? I don't know what the last eqiupment bid looked like, maybe not nesseary?
Re: April 7th course
I don't know Air Canada's exact hiring and training plans for this year, but if past years are any indication, you can expect the training to slow down for the summer months. All hands are needed on deck to fly the line, so there are very few checkers available. Don't worry, hiring will pick up again in the autumn.
Expect a lot of hiring in 2009.

Re: April 7th course
Just curious as to why you think there will be lots of hiring. The last of the Embraers have been delivered and the 777's that are expected will act as replacements for the 340's so no new seats... in my eye, that only leaves new hires to replace retirements expected next year (around 110 this year and 100 next year). I hear there is something to do with a contract in 2009 tooThe Raven wrote:I don't know Air Canada's exact hiring and training plans for this year, but if past years are any indication, you can expect the training to slow down for the summer months. Groundtoflightdeck; Yes the RP positions can continue and are quicker but there are not as many seats available. Next bid wont be out till May or June so I can't tell you how many spots are available.
Re: April 7th course
yycflyguy,
Air Canada will start training pilots for the 787 in late 2009. The 787 won't be arriving until 2010 but AC will want pilots trained and ready to go for its arrival.
Also, according to my list, their will be 123 retirements in 2009 and another 133 in 2010 (137 in 2011).
I predict, and it's just a guess, that hiring will slow for the summer months, pick up to 1 course a month starting in the autumn, slow again next summer, then boom again in the fall of 2009.
Just a guess (with a little inside information)

Re: April 7th course
Contract expires July 1st, 2009.... the arrival of the 787 seems light years away with many obstacles to overcome.

Re: April 7th course

Re: April 7th course
The 787 is now nearly a year behind schedule, how that will impact deliveries to AC isn't known but I would imagine it will push delivery back a little. The 787 is a replacement anyway, knocking out a 767 1 to 1.
Flyguy you might want to stop at a clinic for some ointment before you take on some of those Arizona girls, they come with warnings of rashes and burning sensations.

Re: April 7th course
Not true as of the last roadshow. The plan has changed slightly in that we are delaying the exit of the 767 for several years now to help keep up with new demand on international flying while adding new destinations in the near future.Glen Quagmire wrote: The 787 is a replacement anyway, knocking out a 767 1 to 1.

I'm thinking we are on the hook until fall. I've not heard of anyone who interviewd in Jan or Feb that got a course. Re: April 7th course
It's a long process guys. From interview to course date takes quite a while for nearly everyone. Just be patient...it's definetly worth the wait!

Re: April 7th course
I interviewed early Feb and still waiting...I haven't heard a word yet.
I believe you are correct and that we are a little late for the April GS. Keep your fingers crossed till fall I guess.
Good luck to all,
