top hourly wages for instructors in southern Ontario ?

HI,

I am almost finished my class 4 instructors rating and I have been hearing that practically every school from St.Cathathines, Welland, Brantford, Kitchener, Guelph, Burlington, etc is looking for instructors.

I know my school pays less than $20 an hour for a class 4. Who pays the most for a class 4 instructor at the above locations and would you stay for less at the school that you learned to be an instructor?

Any suggestions please and thanks

Toronto Airways pays quite a bit. $30 per flight hour if I'm not mistaken.

Which area or school other than Buttonville(little too far for me) pays good wages. I am concentrating on the Hamilton, Kitchener, brantford, guelph , burlington area. Some pay a base salary plus hourly while others pay just hourly.
Dunnville pays pretty good from what I read.

thanks again.

If the school you trained at paid for example $18 an hour for class 4 and a different school within an hour from where you trained paid a salary and more would you go to that school, or show the dedication at your old school.

Everybody is looking for instructors and my class 1 instructor is telling me we'll see what we can do for you with the schedule that you want (little upsetting on my part to hear this).

my two cents and comments appreciated

Will your dedication pay the bills? For wages that low, they shouldnt expect to get any dedication from employees. Go where the money is.

You need to do more than just vote with your wallet. There are schools in S. Ont. where instructors are leaving, even though they recently got pay raises. And I mean leaving for other instructing jobs at other schools, not to go fly in the north. Ask questions of the instructors who work at the schools you intend to work for. A lousy work environment is not worth an extra $3.00 / hour.

With Instructor training going the way it is... I can see it become a "training bond" type environment where they pay for your training but you have to stick around for X.... I agree about finding a good place to fly but even the best place at $15/fly hour is not going to be enough to pay my bills.. there has to be a middle ground.

I think posting salaries and conditions will make FTU's step up. No one wants to be the bottom of the beryl employer.

So... anyone gots info for Alberta?

That's an interesting comment. The only reason bonds are in place is because of pilots getting training and screwing off elsewhere where the money is better. PPC'd and run.

An Instructor rating is purchased flight training and the FTU is not required to hire you. Even with some FTU's doing the "Instructor's Rating and we'll hire you" theme, FTU's consume a quick $9G from you (give or take) to get that ink on your license. They're not going to give that up ... I mean getting paid to hire someone. What a deal and a half.

The idea here is if the rates of instructors go up to $35+/hour I wonder what the price/break would be to have the school write off the instructor rating as an expense and hire that person at $12/hour or something like that... just a thought

It's all about the money!! A Base is important, this allows you stability during the bad weather. Anyone offering you $18 dollars an hour is way behind the times. In southern Ontario a class 4 is getting $ 22 + / hour + base of about $200 a week or $ 30 -35 a hour for flight time without a base. I don't recommend working without a base as it promotes the idea of fly until you drop, and can be pretty lean in the off months. And forget about all the free work because you want to fly attitude. You have a right to a fair pay for a fair day's work.

So, in summary, "dirtpoorflyr" says you have a right to a fair pay so that you don't end up a "dirtpoorflyr"

couldn't resist sorry :prayer:

Lets set an wage example and get you renamed dirtyrichflyr ;)

What year are those pay rates based on... doesn't seem realistic when Pro's ZBB neighbors are all $25 / hour or higher, competition seems to dictate that they would be out of staff if that was their pay rate. Switching jobs is easy when it just involves crossing the ramp.
