Making about $15,000 initially, and saddled with $50,000 of school debt, she moved in with her sister in Washington, flying out of Dulles Airport.
Interesting article, yet sad.

I'm not sure what I find funnier... Captain Captain or First Officer Captain.
That said, am grateful to be working for an airline that pays me pretty decently.

Don't forget he was in the military
He was Lieutenant Captain when he left for the airlines

It's better to break ground and head into the wind than to break wind and head into the ground.

Call me crazy but I could never drive a desk.....

Re: For Pilots, Dreams Run Into Reality
Probably when people sit and think why does it only cost 140.00$ to fly from Comox to Edmonton one way?
How can you tell which one is the pilot when you walk into a bar?....Don't worry he will come up and tell you.
Re: For Pilots, Dreams Run Into Reality
I just got promoted to Chief Pilot, Operations Manager, and PRM, but the man refused to pay my invoice for 10 days work, so here I am, underemployed again. But I did get 3 job offers today. HAHAHA (Sorry, I'm drunk)....
Drinking lots of coffee lately, at a nice safe jungle desk, wishing I were flying......

Good article.
My attitude has always been that there are those who will fly and those who will talk about what they could of or should have been flying.
I really believe that the cost of fuel will continue to drive this profession into the gutter, but let us all enjoy the next 30-50 years of oil left in the world!
Fly safe everyone.

Re: For Pilots, Dreams Run Into Reality
That's a red herring. Pilots are their own worst enemies. Therethe cost of fuel will continue to drive this profession into the gutter
is always another young pilot arriving on the scene, telling
management he is willing to fly for free because he "loves it".
Unions don't protect pilots from management, unions protect
pilots from undercutting each other.
Re: For Pilots, Dreams Run Into Reality
I think the rising cost of fuel is making flying MORE affordable compared to driving.cheeky cough wrote:I really believe that the cost of fuel will continue to drive this profession into the gutter

I am just afraid of becoming an unwilling expat pilot, with the way things are going here.
Do they have Tim Hortons in Dubai????

What do you think would be wrong with being an expat pilot?I am just afraid of becoming an unwilling expat pilot, with the way things are going here.
It's doubtful.Do they have Tim Hortons in Dubai????
But just to the west of Dubai in Jeddah S.A. there are public beheadings twice a week for your entertainment.
The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.
After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

Wow, and I almost wondered, if only for a moment, why I voted 'no' in that threat about leaving Canada...

Drinking outside the box.
