I was having a beer with some guys talkin about an incident involving an A320. TC went up in a King Air and duplicated the route from the radar tapes. The guys scoffed at this saying it does not accurately represent the path of the Airbus because the King Air is lighter.
I maintain that if the same speed of 180 kts is flown and the same rate of turn applied, ie 3 degrees per second, you should fly the same ground path. ( in zero wind ) no matter what the gross weight.
Can you guys figure this one out?

Equation for radius of turn: R= Velocity squared/ 11.26 tan(bank angle).
No, weight does not enter the equation, so if the Velocity is the same (in TAS) and both planes apply the same bank angle, the radius of turn will be the exact same.
Equation for rate of turn: ROT= 1091 tan(bank angle)/ Velocity.
Note that for 2 planes that have the same rate of turn (3 degrees), turning at the same velocity, then the bank angle will be the same. If both a/c have the same bank angle, and the same velocity, then, according to the first equation, they will have the same radius, and thus, the same ground path.
