since i started hijacking this thread on beech 18s, i decided to start a new thread on this.
http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/viewtopi ... 8&start=25
here is the story, in 2006 i flew out to malcolm island on reindeer lake to check out the DC-3 that crashed on take off.
http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/viewtopi ... 25&t=20459
i bought the book DEAD LINE JUNE 7 by FRED LOCKHART on ebay which tells about building a lodge in the middle of nowhere from the 1950s on. in the book he tells of 3 aircraft accidents on the island in 3 days. (i scanned the pages below) if you can find this book or know where on is, grab it, they are getting very rare. i wish the family would bring it back in to print.
then about a year later ruud leeuw with his website posts an email from mac mccrimmon which tells all about the beech 18 and its life after the crash on malcolm island in 1969.
(bottom of the page)
http://www.ruudleeuw.com/search116.htm
then on the RISK IT ALL TOUR on reindeer lake, floyd at
http://www.grandslamlodge.com tells me when the float planes bank to fly in to his lodge. they can see the outline of a twin engine air plane in the bay on calm day. wow is all i have to say.
http://kingofobsolete.ca/RISK_IT_ALL_TOUR_WEBPAGE.htm
since i live in the great white north, i need help from this BB on info so salvaging the plane. i have never seen a beech 18 in person so i guess salvaging one is the only way to find out.

Hi King
hope that works out, while I have been in and out of (staitonary) Twin Beeches I have no experience in salvaging, let alone saving them from an underwater grave...
Admire your stamina to charge these challenges!!

King, I have to ask the question, why would you go to all the trouble and expense to salvage an old Beech 18 carcass that is pretty much worthless? There are Beech 18's laying all over the country and are in alot easier places to access than Reindeer Lake. Just check behind the hangar of most Northwestern Ontario float operators and you will find all you need.
Anyway just wondering and good luck with your project!!

it has almost been 10 years and i said i would do it and i did it but i salvaged the wrong beech 18. i salvaged CF-PJG which is a stripped airplane that was dumped in the water to get rid of the hulk. thansk to the Hugh MacCallum website and picture gallery #2 the plane was still flying until 1972. now i have to go back and salvage the second beech 18, lol.

after tossing $5000.00 at the pink crew cab it only lasted 3 days till the trans computer died. then it was $600.00 for that at the dealer only to find out the truck has to go to the dealer to be "flashed". now i'm right back where i started 15 years ago driving my 39 chevy towing my 68 chevy trailer.
we are loaded up and heading out in the morning to salvage the correct airplane this time. there will be $10,000.00 in fishing equipment on the front seat of the 39 chevy, lol.

after 4 years since we recovered the beech 18 CF-PJG it was time to bring the plane back to where it flew out of 49 years ago. only problem is we decided to go get the plane in January 2020 with 3 feet of snow the 100kms of the Kinoosao Rally Road to travel over. atleast the bugs were not a problem.

unloading the beech 18 was easy with the M816 Wrecker and the plane will be seen by google earth. in the summer i'll lay the wings out for picture pictures on google earth. until then the visitors can see the wing and call letters.
now to go get a few more planes.

Recover a B18 why in gods name would you do that? Dive down recover the floats if she was a water corker and leave the poor beasty on the bottom. The second engine takes you straight to the accident and the floats are worth more than the plane

Is this going to be a huge list?
I better add soft drinks, pizza and BBQ.
I like motorcycles but sorely neglect the poor things. My wife says I should only rent them. Don't tell her but, she's probably right.
