PBS

Post by Maxxed out »

Hey,

Anyone out there commuting and know how to get a good schedule out of PBS? I am looking to work blocks of days (maybe 7 on, 7 off). Would prefer higher credit stuff, and really don't care what kind of flying I do while I am at work. I think I sit somewhere around 70% on the Emj yyz list.

If anyone has any tips I would like to try to get a good schedule for June. msg me if you like,
Thanks in Advance,
Max

I'm anything but an expert when it comes to PBS, but here's what my limited knowledge would suggest to you:

Under Bids/Other Options, select 'Maximum consecutive days worked' to 7 (or whatever you like), and reduce the 'Maximum working days per month' to something less than the default 16 (which would encourage productive flying). Alternatively, you may want to consider bidding 'Load Beg' or 'Load End' which would pack all your flying into one part of the month and give you a string of days off for the rest.

I'm sure there are guys out there with more wisdom when it comes to PBS bids, and hopefully they will have something to add. Learning to bid the schedule you want is truly an art, especially in the years of high 'juniority' (like you and I  ).

Cheers,

Try (total work periods) this will give you your 7 on 7 off. Or a least more days off in a row :laughbig:

Try this

http://www.aloft.ca/pbsplus/index.html

Works great, designed by the creator of PBS and by the end of the year, you will have learned how to bid well. I recommend it to all the new guys.

I continue to use this and consistently out bid the guys senior to me.

I used to set the maximum leg time to like two hours, in hopes of eliminating the LGA, BOS, DCA and rapidair stuff. Try using the hour/day bid too. The load end/load beginning works too.

Bid layovers at your actual home(if your type goes there). That is the best way to artificially increase your seniority as a commuter(more hometime even though your "days worked" is more than it could be)

Avoid work periods with high weight.

Other options: May consecutive days 7. (I wish they would increase that to 8 since most EMJ pairings are 4 dayers)

High credit goes senior as commuters and non commuters alike generally want it. You can go max hrs/day if you want that. Keep in mind your layovers will be just long enough to sleep and go back at it again. (This can be in conflict with your bid for long layovers at home).

From me, the aspiring PBS guru...
