126..7 - AB, SK, MB

Post by notsocoolcuke »

Would the idiots who think its funny to say things like "meow", or make other childish noises after a person they know makes a transmission on 126.7 please knock it off? It wasn't funny the first time, it sure as hell isnt funny the following 30 times.

Same goes to those who play "slow ride" over the mic using their cellphone speakers on 126.7

Grow the @#$! up children...

On another related note, if you hear a buddy on 126.7, do NOT call him up and start chatting away like you're on a Telus plan. Go up a nickel or choose another frequency that does NOT interfere with people trying to make en-route calls or conflict resolutions...

I think I am to blame for this phenomenon. It all started back in the Yukon, a little town called Mayo to be exact. After watching Super troopers for the 100th time that summer I thought it would be funny to call Mayo Airport Radio "Meow" Airport Radio, none of the radio operators picked up on it but other pilots did as well and it became a greeting when making position reports. "Hows It going Meow" and such.

I then Migrated out to Manitoba, this combined with a Chewbacca growl at random on 126.7 to make Manitoba seam fun between the endless benders and binges between hauling buckets of chicken to the hot spots. Eventually the long winter set in and we all turned are attention to making potato Cannons and how to obtain a sled on our meager salary. The Meowing and other animal like sounds faded into memory with shorter days spent in the cockpit.

As the Ice begins to melt in the north I suspect there is more time spent in the cockpit so when your Ipod quits and your board you throw out a "MEOW" to see who's out there to BS with. It hearkens back to the good old days of CB whips on your rig chatting away with whoever to pass the time and keep you awake, but please go up a nickel thats just good manners.

Interesting
This crap has been going on for years. 126.7 is almost a useless frequency.

Where am I going? I don't know.
When will I get there? I'm not certain.
All I know is I am on my way!

With apologies and thanks to Mr. Greasy (you know who you are!)

Check out this "highly efficient vegetable relocator":

http://www.pittspecials.com/etc/veg1.jpg

None of that BBQ spark crap. Dual spark gaps
with an emulated pre-1975 automotive points &
capacitor ignition system, with an old motorcycle
battery and an Accel coil

Fires first time, every time! But density altitude
must be accounted for. During the winter, I
can use up to six seconds of spray, but as
it warms up, that's 'way too rich a mixture,
and you have to back it off.

All materials & methods IAW AC43-13 naturally!

Speaking of this when I was out in AB flying around there I recal trying to call up a few different FSS stations on there own frequency to get the weather so as not to tie up 126.7 only to have them tell me to call 126.7 When I said well I figured I would call you as not to tie up 126.7 . They were dumb founded as to my reasoning, I then thanked them for there Service in Flight SERVICE station. And proceeded to get the weather and change my flight plan on 26.7 from FL250 for all the province to hear,

I have only encountered this is Alberta, WTF Over

There are discreet enroute frequencies available for weather and flight planning from the FIC, so that you don't tie up 126.7. Why you weren't given one is beyond me. But the AAS sites have been specifically ordered not to routinely hand out METAR or do flight plans, we're only allowed to do it if you can't contact the FIC for some reason.

And you'd have encountered it in Manitoba, too, if you'd actually stuck around there for more than a day or two. :) Well, at least being told to call the FIC, not the 126.7 part.

Hedley, what are you using for fuel in that mother? we did alot of testing and internet research, turns out the brown right guard is the best. Has something like 3-4 different hydrocarbons in it, and makes the potats smell gooood.

2# porpane bottles make excellent fuel source for tuber motivators. Getting the mixture right takes a little finesse :)

As for 126.7 in Ontario, when it's CAVOK, it's pretty painful. I monitor and report on the frequency over a two hour flight and cannot make out 90% of the noise that comes from calls that are continually stepped on. When the channel is clear, pilots will take up more than the necessary amount of time to provide a basic position report. "Conflicting traffic please advise XXXX" is not correct phraseology, and it does not release the pilot from their See and Avoid responsibilities. The only time I will use the phrase is if I am switching frequencies and want the conflicting traffic to know where they can reach me, and as far as I know, that's probably not the correct phraseology either.

I use the cheapest hair spray I can find for my vegetable
relocator. With my dual-spark auto ignition system, it
works great!

I love firing it at night - the muzzle blast is quite something.

Have toyed with the idea of a rifled barrel.

With all the different propellants used.. The "quick start" (ether) from canadian tire produces the best muzzle blast.. a nice blue two foot flash and loud bang.. Whereas the hairspray.. ladies select.. found at most shoppers drug marts (it has the highest alcohol content) produced the furthest distance. Haven't tried effing around with propane yet. The cheapest solution are they compressed air cannons.. all ya need is some muscle and a bicycle pump

Please advise on xxxx. Works for me. Guess in the stiff wing world, you only have one radio going at a time. Try talking to a bird dog, ground crew, dispact, other aircaft. With 4 different radio's.
