Jazz Q's
I really want to flying a Dash 8 one day and this is just a general post...I know stuff like this has been asked but I cant find actual numbers for:
Lowest figure on the payscale
Highest figure on the payscale
(Because I would like to fly a Dash 8, lets go with $ figures on it...if that applies...unless its all seniority)
A mean number of hours (I know they say ATPL) to be considered with how much multi time (base it on...the last 5 years?).
Do most use as a way to AC or do people stay at Jazz long term (I would assume its more family oriented no? Short haul stuff)
Any numbers would be amazing...not perfect, just something. I would love to get to that point within the next 2-3 years.

Metal doesn't matter. You would make the same on the Dash as you would on the RJ.
2000 hours TT, an ATPL, over 500 hours of Multi time, Two crew, and turbine are probably a realistic goals, although people have been hired without.
Look here for the pay,

I believe it's fairly accurate. Per diem pay and benefits are great.
I would say quite a few use Jazz as a leap to Mainline or other airlines, however, quite a few stay. The bottom end of the seniority changes a fair bit with people leaving and new hires
Hope that helps, cheers!

Per diem and benefits are great? Not to 'hijack' the thread, but they are far from great. Bring the per diems to $70/day, and the benefits to at least 80% employer contribution, then we'll call them 'great'. This WILL be a 2009 contract issue guaranteed.
Don't come to Jazz if you think it would be a ticket to AC. If you want to fly the oldest DH8's on the planet, then come on over

Chase companies, not airplanes. The Dash is a cool machine, but there are much better career options than Jazz.
Re: Jazz Q's
I actually think the JAZZ DH8 fleet is made up of the best kept examples in this country(we will keep Q400s out of this) and as far as -8 you can fly on a Canadian Liscense, I've seen no better and far worse. Maint. works hard to keep high time machines going and yes they are showing their age and should be replaced sooner than later, on a day to day basis they are reliable. Nothings perfect but if you go to JAZZ with the "go to work, do the best job you can, go home happy" attitude and try to deflect the negative conversation with a "how about those Red Wings" flying the eight there is a really good job. PS. I've held PPC on more than a dozen types and the Dash is my new fav...especially with the new TAWS!
Re: Jazz Q's
Just a note about the per diems. They are set by the federal government and generally not up for negotiations in the new contract. As it stands right now, Jazz has the max per diems set by the federal tax code and until that changes the per diems won't.Per diem and benefits are great? Not to 'hijack' the thread, but they are far from great. Bring the per diems to $70/day
Hope that helps the mis-informed or overly optimistic.

I'm probably misinformed, but definitely overly optimistic. Regardless, the current per-diem rate sucks. Benefits, however are something that can be fixed.
Not that I don't believe you about the tax code, but where did you get the information from?

Re: Jazz Q's
The tax exempt part of per diems is set by CRA (tax guys, not airline). But it is not capped at what we have. I can't remember the exact figue, but it is considerably higher. I believe bureaucrats and politicians get $120/day.Moustache wrote:Just a note about the per diems. They are set by the federal government and generally not up for negotiations in the new contract. Re: Jazz Q's
Can you please point out which companies in Canada pay $70.00/day perdiems? With the exception of Transat (which is mostly international flying) and Calm Air (surprising but true) the Jazz perdiems are very competive with what all other Canadian carriers are paying. If you can't get by on $56.00 a day in the places that Jazz flies, you might want to have a look at your lifestyle.Canoehead wrote:Per diem and benefits are great? No need to point anything out. You did that for me right after your question.
Granted, my original comment was perhaps a little misdirected and misunderstood (in my mind), but if you are a JZA pilot then you'll know an increase in 'per-diems' and insurance contributions will likely be the only improvement in overall take-home pay after 2009 negots.

Re: Jazz Q's
Sunwing's per diems are higher and are actually in line with what TC pays out to it's inspectors (or so I am told - $80/day).

Re: Jazz Q's
I know this thread somehow got off on a Per Diem tangent, but this guy WANTS TO FLY A DASH 8??? Listen to an grizzled ole skipper grasshopper, give your head a shake. There feel better, no? Look, this is the plane for the guys that lose the lottery in Groundschool. Yeah, sit down there at F200 poking through thunderstorms, listen to that smack as the ice comes off the props scaring the bejezus of the the pax. I haven't flown anything with props for the last 18years and if someone tells you that an airplane is just an airplane tell them that your Uncle Turdy says that's crap. Flying a jet is the easiest thing in the world, sitting up there at F390, smooooth as a babies derriere, no vibrations (except that constant churning in my ole intestinal tract) gotta love it.
Props suck sonny.

Hey Turd, maybe you can find some information about your "churning intestines" on this page:
Stomach Problems for Jet Drivers
There's nothing wrong with flying low (except you might go deaf)
