Moving to Saskatoon
Hi all,
Need a little help, gf is moving to Saskabush in a month or so for a job, need to know where are the safest/best places in the city to look to rent? And the areas of the city to avoid...
Appreciate any feedback.

Re: Moving to Saskatoon
Avoid the west side. Near the university is expensive and reasonable stuff in the north end.

Re: Moving to Saskatoon
I Agree with above, Avoid the West Side, AKA Alphabet soup! West side is everything west of Idlewylde road. Lawson Heights is nice and near broadway is nice too and near many trendy places and pubs, plus a close walk to downtown. Enjoy Toon town, its very nice in the summer.

girls girls girls,
Broadway, university, 8th street area. all fun. The bar scene is great, girls friendly. Getting totally obliterated is not only tolerated its encouraged. seriously avoid the west side. Around st.pauls hospital, bad, very bad. Oh and to bring you up to speed on the lingo, a vodka special is for girls, pilsner is on special and it's a bunnyhug.

Re: Moving to Saskatoon
Whoa, the west side is not all bad, but like stated avoid the "alpha-ghetto" which is the lettered avenues (Ave A through dam near Z I think). Dundonald and Hampton Village are ok, and most of Confederation Park and Fairhaven are acceptable (not great, but not terrible) plus these west side neighborhoods will save you $20,000-$40,000 on a house vs. east of the river for a similar property, or a lighter load on rent depending on if you are buying or renting. East of the river is loaded with stuck up arseholes which make community involvement and socializing almost impossible, which may be your thing, I didn't care for it. I have spent 10+ years on either side of the water divide, and much preferred the sense of community in the good west side neighborhoods over the east side. The crime rate on the east side is statistically lower, but the NW corner of the city is no different. Avoid anything south of 33rd St on the west side and you should be ok.
Re: Moving to Saskatoon
Basically everyone's covered it above. If you don't mind commuting a bit to get to the airport, I'd suggest University area, Broadway area (but at least a couple blocks from Broadway) and other suggestions as above.
If you live in Lawson heights you'll be near the airport. However I'd suggest avoiding living on Pinehouse Drive (lots of apartments on it). Had my car broken into on that street 3 months after moving there, and the police subsequently told me that Pinehouse Drive is one of the worst in the city for vehicle B&E / vandalism.
Welcome to Saskatoon. You're just in time for all the runway construction.

Why do something now when you can do it later??

Re: Moving to Saskatoon
The west side is an incorrect description what they mean is inner city. The west side outside circle drive is a safe bet aswell.ie Fairhaven, Parkridge, Dundonald are definately safe and nice places to live and probably quit a bit cheaper.

Where do the street hookers hang out?

Re: Moving to Saskatoon
yup, draw a line between downtown and the Confederation Superstore, (which includes the 'letter avenues'), that's the place to avoid.
Drinking outside the box.

Re: Moving to Saskatoon
Couple of towns such as Warman and Martensville are usually a 20 minute commute to the airport. However house prices and rental rates are starting to catch up to Saskatoon's market. It will still save you a bit of $$ though.Kosiw wrote:Thanks a bunch for all the replies the info is appreciated on where to/where not to live in yxe![]()

Re: Moving to Saskatoon
Here's a tip for you. Circle Drive isn't really a circle!
Re: Moving to Saskatoon
cirlce drive, used to be circle. back in the days of BEEP.
The Patricia hotel, the Sutherland bar, and Rileys still going strong, hard to believe. Louis at the UofS. ahhh the blurry memories of mini pitchers.

Re: Moving to Saskatoon
and if you want to go north on circle you want to take the exit that says 'circle drive west'. Figure that one out.
