Canadian aviation is in a bad way!IE People flying for food or worse flying for nothing.Where will these NOTHINGS BE IN TEN YEARS FROM NOW!STILL EARNING NOTHING!!!!The rest of us have to leave the country to earn a decent living as we are not all going to be Canadian airline material .Before leaving the country, get yourself an FAA license and if you have a little extra get a decent type rating{B-737NG}.The Can. Govt will help with this process{HRDC}.They paid for my B-747/200 type .$16,000 worth.I put it on my FAA license first then X-the border and theCan. T.C. rubber stamped it.I now have a FO B-747 position starting Monday.

Sounds like CAL, they were on a big push last year as well. Base is in TPE and it is a commuting schedule. (barely)

ba aware of CAL guys....worked for them 2 years back in 1999(flight ops and maintenance), and it's a big company with a lot of cash...but rock 'n roll operation as far as safety is concerned!...too many very low time F/Os and wouldn't even thrust their captains much, had some weird experiences with them. CRM with these guys is in theory only unless you get to work with north american crews, some of these crew came from Atlas Air. In other words, there are good guys with tons of experience but most of the time they're paired with jokes!
The B747-200 won't be there for long, very few remain with the CAL cargo but they'll eventually be retired. If you get with the Cargo branch, you'll get good deals in terms of commuting, leaves, etc...they have a base in Anchorage, alaska. You might even get a B747-400 type if you get on the -200 soon enough and they decide to keep you later. destinations include Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the persian Gulf.....during the summer, temp in the high 40's celcius, flights(cargo) get there in the early moorning and leave not later than 09:00-10:00 am usually at max T.o weight going west to frankfurt or brussels or east to taiwan via bangkok. The -200s I used to work on were the one with the 830,000 lbs max weight.
Things might be better now in terms of safety culture and you have to ask people who worked for them more recently.

Good day,

I read a post by Turbo-Comp 3350
"The Can. Govt will help with this process{HRDC}.They paid for my B-747/200 type .$16,000 worth.I put it on my FAA license first then X-the border and theCan. T.C. rubber stamped it."

I have e-mail him but maybe he was razzed by people about tax payers that he didn't feel like answering. Did you happen to find out how to get the type rating from HRDC ?

Please do tell because that would be amazing.

Thank so much for your time,
350TT

TG and the rest of you still don't get it - unless you get on with AC or the like, or you leave the country, YOU WILL NEVER HAVE ENOUGH TO RETIRE ON. You are paying more taxes than anyone else in north america - where does it go? $45 BILLION surplus in the EI fund; Chronic unemployment at 7+ percent; no money in the Canada pension plan (tried to live on $700 a month lately)? Gun registry; sponsorship scandal; no hockey (just kidding). The EI program is there to support workers - just because a jet-endorsement costs more than a plumber's ticket doesn't make us less entitled.

You can have my EI money. Spend it on a training course so you're not on welfare when you retire.

And to think there is actually a debate about whether or not pilots need to be educated. Sheesh.

Everyonehas to pay into the EI fund, even when you;re 10 years old, and picking strawberries for a farm. Is that fair??? the govmt. robbing candy money from a 10 year old. Come on. If you can get some of that money back in training, why not? After all, thats why you started paying into it, and why you will for the rest of your working life.
I believe the rate you pay in is someting like $2.20 per $100 earned and i'm sure your boss has to paysome as well.
So, you do the math.
Enjoy the winter!!!

I guess you're all right about it, I just have to convince myself it's not abusing the system.

Turbo-Comp 3350 must feel guilty about it, if not his arguments would have been.....more....."polite".....(even if he don't give a sh!t)

So basically the gvt gives you a ticket to leave the country, like paying for a B-747/200 rating where there is not a single a/c of this type registered in Canada. And on the other end accepting immigrants with pilot's licence.

please, not here to start a debate toward immigration policy I just don't get the logic here...if any...ehehe, like some of you said I just don't get it.
