Does anybody out there know the cost of a laser ceilometer? Are there any websites that display this information?

Why, what did you do to yours?
This is (at least I'm pretty sure) the model we had in Thompson:

Couldn't find the price anywhere.

Thanks for the replies. We didn't actually do anything to ours as WE DON'T HAVE ONE! Can you believe it?!?! An FSS with no ceilometer!!! I've heard somethign in the range of $3500-$4000, but I find it hard to believe that it is that cheap. I guess I may just have to call Vaissala and find out. Thanks again for the replies!

We don't have one either. Lots of sites don't.
We don't have FWGS, NARDS, WADDS, DF, or a tipping bucket rain gauge either.

Not having DF is probably a good thing. I think only the FICs have FWGS now. WADDS is nothing special, you read numbers off an LED display rather than a dial.

I'm a consulting meteorologist. We've installed them before for private clients. I will check what we paid for one tommorow at work.

You've got it sweet compared to other sites, trust me. Well, at least equipment wise.
I'm getting NARDS, but only for the second RAAS site we're getting.

DF I get, but I have no idea what that other stuff is.
Thanks for the enlightenment!
Cheers!

We have none of that equipment. No radar coverage below 7000 so that's the reason for no Nards. WADDs will probably come with the new AWOS whenever that comes. We do seem to be off the beaten path sometimes, but hey, we got a new BowFlex treadmill, a brand new elliptical trainer, and a new Weider Platinum Plus Home Gym. Who the hell will use this stuff is beyond me. All I want is a small freezer for my tv dinners

At least you can work out!

Well I checked our records. We purchased one for a client in 2005 for $21,000. For installation you'd be looking at roughly another $10,000 depending on location.
Certainly couldn't immagine you getting one for 3-4000 unless someone made it in their basement.

Can get hand held models though... can't imagine those are more than $1000.

I'd guess the accuracy and functionality would be somewhat limited compared to the mounted models.

Thanks for all the replies. I didn't think that a simple question about a laser ceilometer could give me a few minutes of entertainment on a slow day (when is it not?) at work. Thanks again to husky for checking your records. I hate it when people make things up when they really don't know what they are talking about (reference the quote we got).

I knew this would be brought up so here it goes. At some sites, like here, it's single stand. Just you and no one else. There are some days with a swing shift during the day, but not that many. Some of this equipment is downstairs away from the position. My arguement is when are we to use this equipment? The only reasonable answer is to come in on your days off. The ACC's and Fic's have the advantage of large staff.

Before or after your shift, same as when you might go to the gym?
