Hi,
A good friend of mine is in the RAF (UK) and would like to come to work in Canada in the civilian world. He's currently a supervisor and technician in the maintenance of Merlin helicopters at RAF Benson. I think most of his training was done at the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering at RAF Cosford.
I was curious if anyone here knows of anyone who has left the RAF to come and work in Canada. If so, are you able to explain (briefly) how his qualifications might - or might not - be transferrable to Canada. Do you happen to know what the process is to make it happen and how long that process might take?
Oh - I should point out, I'm not an AME myself and I don't know much about the AME side of aviation in Canada.
Any help is appreciated. Feel free to PM if you'd prefer that.
Thanks in advance.

Re: RAF to Canadian AME?
You may have already seen this information:

It is not a " dealbreaker" or necessary, I don't think, but a notarized letter from a current Canadian Permanent resident- ( guaranteeing that the Canadian resident will look after you ) in the absence of a job offer pre-immigration would help.
Being British helps too , I think, -in a general sense ( same lady on the money removes some hurdles )
Good luck.

Re: RAF to Canadian AME?
Hi mate, if you PM me I will give you the information you require (Its a lot to put on here) I am in the RAF at the mo and I am in the process of moving to Canada. I have managed to find out a fair bit, its not an easy process, its quite long winded but if he is prepared to do it then he can gain most of the creditations he needs towards his AME by submitting information to Transport Canada.
Cheers

Re: RAF to Canadian AME?
Hi, I'M ex-RAF (RAF Lyneham and RAF Chivenor). You have to do all the exam for Transport Canada. I was an apprentice at RAF Cosford and they recognized my training without a hitch. If you had the fitter course I think you should be okay, I'm assuming you are NCO like I was. PM if you have any questions.
Cheers mate.
Cheers mate.
