What is the deal with Morningstar?

Post by Bill Lumberg »

Who are those guys? I know they fly freight in 727s, but for whom? Where is their base of operations, and how do they compare with Cargojet and Kelowna(flightcraft)? Which of the three is the best place to work? Thank you.

Mornigstar flys cargo for fed-ex. I believe there are a number of bases across the country, Vancouver, Edmonton, Quebec. there may be more but i know these ones for sure. Start out on the Caravan or as second officer on the 727. I don't work for them, but I ahve talked to a number of their pilots, they seem to be well taken care of, good sched and pay, no pressure. the guys I've talked to are there for the long haul, excuse the pun . Hope that helps.

I've heard that they're quite short on crews right now...thus lots of overtime. I guess that's good for some...bad for others. Morningstar is also starting a fractional buisiness with Hawkers/Challengers. I'de be a little wary of these positions. I heard of someone that was offered the job and his course was postponed for 3 months before they finally told him there was no job...they can only get away with this kind of BS for so long. If you look at the post they have up on this forum...the positions are still being listed as openings for 'future expansion'.

Sounds like a polite PFO.. However, good on them for responding.

Actually, it sounds like "we're not hiring at this exact moment, but your resume is in the pile"

I wouldn't take it as a PFO at all.

The ATR you saw in YQB is based in YMX. My buddy is an FO on that machine.

I hear the YMX ATR job is not a real hour builder though. Up to YQB and back 3 times a week. And do you sleep in YQB all day?

I met mgmt a little while back and they were on the ball - it looks like they run a good operation, at least from a distance.

That's one way to look at it. Another would be that you get paid a nice salary to work not so much. And the next a/c you have a shot at is a 727.

back in 1997 the CP and DFO at the time told me that the contract for the aircraft that they were interviewing for had just been renewed for another 2 years

i accepted their offer of employment and was laid off after 1 month as the contract was ending 60 days later

this was over the christmas season

my former CP told me to ask about the contract when i told him i was going for an interview and asking for a letter of recommendation

my former employer ended up with the contract

the MS CP and DFO were either misinformed, misunderstood or lied

sometimes it isn't the pilot being coy in an interview

I don't work for Morningstar, I work for Bombardier. My buddy works for Morningstar. He was one of the first guys trained on the ATR when it got there. I think he's been on it for a year and a bit.

.....AND he's moving into my crib for a while I think. 8)

THAT may be a bad combination you know. He's freakishly tall so I'm going to have the paramedics sit on stand-by in case he knocks himself out walking through doorways.

He's moving into your place? I haven't talked to him in a while, and hadn't heard that. I'll have to give him a shout.

PS. Your collective livers will be taking a beating methinks!
