Bye Bye Zoom
The end of Zoom.
Who would ever buy a ticket with them now?

Re: Bye Bye Zoom
There are many truly talented and outstanding people flying for Zoom. One thing I've learned in this business is that while companies come and go, the people remain and end up flying under a different banner. Hopefully the brainiacs running the business end of Zoom will sort it all out, but if they don't the crews are still exceptionally good at what they do and some other company will end up benefitting from their experience and skill.
From past experience I know it is very difficult to remain positive at times like this. But we all know and have experienced the ebb and flow of this industry and things always turn around. At a time when there are so many inexperienced people the Zoom crews are a valuable commodity. My sincerest best wishes for all.

Re: Bye Bye Zoom
Right. Tell that to anybody who just paid for a ZOOM fare. I know of two who just did that from Halifax over to London next month. I would try to seek a refund and I take a hit if I were them. Imagine if you were over in the United Kingdom ready to come home and this outfit went under- which I bet is gonna happen in very short order.Rockie wrote:There are many truly talented and outstanding people flying for Zoom. THAT IS WHY, I would never, ever book anything with the ZOOMs, CanJets, Skylinks and Transats for a holiday out of the country. It is Air Canada - bar none and depending on the destination WestJet. I keep telling my many acquaintances that if you are gonna spend big bucks on a MED. cruise or something similar down south, STAY THE @#$! AWAY from the above outfits. IT's your hard earned money that is going down the toilet!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Bye Bye Zoom
Given a choice of losing a holiday or losing my job, I think I would pick losing a holiday. I'm sorry you can't see fit to show a little compassion toward those who are most effected by this.
I'm also sorry your friends have been inconvenienced. If they paid by credit card I'm sure they will get their money back without too much hassle and be able to re-book on another carrier. All in all it shouldn't cost much more than a hour of two of their time.

Re: Bye Bye Zoom
Zoom and Transat are hardly in the same league. Transat for one is a publically traded company, the airline component represents a small portion of the business. This cannot be said for Zoom.

Funny, I remember about 10 years ago when the line was something like "I'll never fly Westjet, its only Canadian-bar none"THAT IS WHY, I would never, ever book anything with the ZOOMs, CanJets, Skylinks and Transats for a holiday out of the country. It is Air Canada - bar none and depending on the destination WestJet.
It will be interesting what your friends will say in 2009 when those "Walk the Line in 2009" buttons come out
Rockie... an exceptionally well written and thought out post. Good luck to the folks at Zoom and also ALL the people who are affected

Re: Bye Bye Zoom
From what I've read, most of the "experts" are saying that once the summer season is over, which it almost is, that that's when the airlines are going to start really feeling the hit.I think the music just stoped, or at least the volume was cut in half!
Sadly, Zoom is just one of the first to go out of many to come.
A lot of people are still expecting a US Major to go bankrupt this year, and that's going to throw thousands of highly experienced guys on to the world market.
That raises an interesting question for the Air Canada guys who are facing lay-off and may instead take a Leave of Absence instead (I believe that was being discussed as an option...)
So you take a LOA... who is going to hire you? Overseas or in Canada?
You'd better have your job lined up before you take your LOA.

Re: Bye Bye Zoom
I stand by my position, it's my money and nobody else's - that's bar none also. I have been around a long time and witnessed some bad situations over the years due to defunct carriers stranding people especially out of country. How about some compassion there............. naw didn't think so. AS for getting your money back, it ain't that simple especially once an "approval" has been obtained on your VISA/MC or American Express it gets difficulty.

Re: Bye Bye Zoom
Maybe SSV will buy them? That's one of the rumors around YYZ.

Re: Bye Bye Zoom
So they couldn't even make it to the end of the summer. My money is on it being only a few days before more go bust.

Re: Bye Bye Zoom
Oh, man... If they go TU, my thoughts for the guys/gals who are going to lose their jobs..
Hard to make money with only 69 people in a '67, though..The 69 passengers expecting to fly on the Boeing 767 to Glasgow and then on to London's Gatwick airport Wednesday
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Re: Bye Bye Zoom
Why on earth would you buy a defunct company with debt out the wazoo? If SSV was to do anything they would add more jets and routes to there existing company wich I doubt in this uncertain climate would happen.bob sacamano wrote:Maybe SSV will buy them? That's one of the rumors around YYZ.
Re: Bye Bye Zoom
Good lesson for everyone - BOOK ANY PLANE TICKET WITH A MAJOR CREDIT CARD!!!! Not the no fee card, but the high end cards. They have insurrance for exactly this. I had travell plans with C3 back in the day. had a refund from Visa in 4 weeks.
To bad for Zoom, seemed like a good gig. I know the fat lady hasn't sung yet, but with dwindling sales, and now this bad publicity, It can't be far off. I know a few people that work their, all good people. Hope they find a work quickly if/when the closure happens.
Good news for Sunwing though.

Well Zoom's website doesn't look very promising.
http://www.flyzoom.com/
This came as a pretty big surprise to me, anyone know how to go about getting a refund from your credit card company? Not for me, luckily, I'm on a road trip...

From http://www.pilotinterviews.com/JobResea ... lineID=782
3-767-300ER
2-757-200
So hardly the music cut in half, feel sorry for the Zoom workers. Maybe CJ will pick up the jets and cut some holes in them.

Re: Bye Bye Zoom
Well the cards are down and zoom is done - 4 out of their 5 aircraft have already been seized by various leasing agencies and airport authorities. There are lots of stranded pax, and many good employees who won't be getting their paycheque next week. I really hate to see this happen, especially when an operator seemed to be doing well. My thoughts are with everyone out there who is now looking for a new job; hopefully it turns out to be one of those twists of fate that sends you in a better direction.
Re: Bye Bye Zoom
Thanks for the numbers . ...
Well does not look good..got a friend who will be stranded...I did have a feeling; always seems to happen when gas prices go up....
Sounds like they are trying to continue to operate, under bankrupsy protection, but that may not be enough?

Re: Bye Bye Zoom
Sad to hear that, I traveled with them quite a few times to and from the UK.
Re: Bye Bye Zoom
Reading between the lines on their website, it looks like they were planning on operating in bankruptcy protection with funding secured but the creditors must have heard wind on this and got on their assets swiftly.
