Voyageur Airways Interview
Hey any info or advice for the Voyageur Airways Interview, with regards to types of question...IFR? Personal? Company Info?

It is a standard panel interview. Straight forward questions. Some IFR not much, more about you and your career to date. They make you feel very comfortable. overall a great experience.
They seem to be very professional. If you believe everything you read you are naive

The last post sounds like someone relating being sodomized in a prison and saying the guys doing it were kind and tender so it was not all that bad.

I am beginning to question whether or not Avcanada should even host a job posting that requires someone to pay money up front. Obviously there are people out there that cannot process this on their own and need protecting from this stuff. If we post the job here, are we not accessories to the crime?

When they post here, it keeps the flames fanned and we can do a more thorough job of trashing them! Otherwise, we would not know about openings and would be unable to do them justice.

Someone with a sense of humour needs to show up
for an interview with a tub of vaseline, and put it on
the desk, and quickly take a picture with his cellphone

Agreed. So a few years or so back, I went in and had at er' on my own. I seriously wanted the job, needed some progression and wanted to investigate. To the interview I went...I Love the south wrote: If you believe everything you read you are naive
The HR folks were very kind, I felt very at home answering their questions. Some IFR, talk about your experiences, what do you know of the company, why do you want to work here, etc. Then came towards the end: "Now I am sure you have heard many rumours about bonds and we should discuss that. Due to the nature of this business, and the entire industry, it is common practice to ask for some financial committment from you up front" ...Blah blah blah, we'll help you nail down a loan...etc etc.
I calmly stated "Ok, can you go through some of the reasoning, because it seems like such a great place to work, from what you say, that you shouldn't have any problem retaining good people"..Answer "That's just the nature of the industry, you'll find it occurs very frequently; and don't forget, you'll get it back"
Me - "I haven't encountered that before, and besides, it sounds like a great place to be from what you say, so I don't think it should be a problem"
Them "Well its common practice, you're going to encounter it everywhere so I don't know what else to tell you"
Me "No problem, but like I say, I'd just like to understand the reasoning before I put down that kind of money"
Them "Training costs money, and we can't afford to train people and have them leave immediately"
Me "That's reasonable, so why not just go to a promissary bond without money up front?"
This banter went on without any bond-justification until I got the lovely "Thanks for your time, we'll be in touch"

That reminds me of an interview I went to many years ago with another oft bashed outfit who shall remain nameless. Went pretty much as you said, until I asked what the pay was. They gave me answer and I must have choked, went white, stopped breathing, or something because the the quoted line came shortly thereafter..!
Walking out of that interview was the best thing I ever did. When some of you young people on here go to buy a house eventually, you'll find out that every penny of a down payment, and every point on a credit rating determine what you can buy, and what kind of life you can lead while paying for it. Living for the "next job" is insane, particularly in aviation.
Banking on money you'll make in jobs you don't even have yet is hazardous to your health, go get fair pay for what you're doing now.

Not if the majority of the things said about them are constantly negative, and the same issues. Maybe naive is sitting there defending VAL's operation.

Paying for a job!! That's crazy talk. It's not like anyone here would do that eh? Guess everyone got their Liscence for free...oh wait. But at least we got the money we paid back after two years right?...oh wait. And no, I've never paid for a bond, never will, and don't like them but I have always lived up to my end of the bargain. As for the ORIGINAL post...sorry can't help you out but for what it's worth the VERY experinced guys I have worked with before that still do the odd month here and there(Dash7/8) for VAL speek of them the same way they speak of the other dozens of contractors they have worked with...some good stuff, some not so good but all in all they were treated fairly.

But to be completely honnest there is huge difference, in prison, nobody will give you back your "virginity", with voyageur you will have your money back....
About "pay", thats quite funny the way you guys use this word... Last time I paid and bought a car, never seen the money back

However few years ago I had the opportunity to go for the interview, decided not to go.... Because I didnt want a loan...
But I still think there is some bashing going on. I know few companies where you REALLY pay for your job.
HAHAHA I feel I will have some new friends again... politically incorrect? Thats when you dont follow the general and admited idea

Many people wish to buy their PPC on the King Air in the hopes of obtaining a job (with Max Aviation). By respect for our personel (yeah right), we have always limited hiring people who pay for their PPC's to one or two per year.
We now have two openings for a first officer in Rimousky or Baie-Comeau.
The candidate(s) chosen for this opening will receive Line Oriented Flight Training which consists of:
-45h ground school
-20h multi-crew training
-10h flight training on King Air
-1.5h flight test on King Air
Total cost of training: 17500$ plus tax
Applicants should submit their resume to Hughes Proulx, chief pilot of Max Aviation, and should meet the following pre-requisites:
-be bilingual
-be a permanent resident (this is important, as most of the pilots who buy their PPC's are foreign students who have just completed their training)
-current CPL, multi-IFR
-minimum 300hrs total flight time
All candidates will be subject to an interview, followed by a sim session. You have until the 4th of September to apply."

Perhaps 10hrs should be covering R/T procedure so we can weed out the "Two Three (OH)'s" of world???

stl, I believe having a very good knowledge of what you fly (ie: more than what you need) is essential. 45 hours may seem long but don't forget that for someone with 300 hrs that have never seen a turbine before, it may not be that much. All new sytems for the guy. Auxbaton, while a good working knowledge is always a good thing, I subscribe to the school of thought, that if you can't actually "fix" a problem in flight, knowing what "makes it tick" is really pretty useless. Know what to do when it "dies" via the check list......after that....live with it. KISS!
