I must have missed it.Swanberg Air is pleased to announce that Captain Philip Cook has joined the company as Operations Manager. He joins Captain Nils Reiffarth, Chief Pilot, to create the best operations management team in western Canada.

Re: Anybody Remember When This Competition Was Held
I wish that best operation in western Canada the best of luck. To be an operation to begin with you need an OC and maybe more pilots than your CP and an Ops manager that isn't typed on your planes. But hey I've been wrong before.

are those not the two from Southpark?

And, the Chief Pilot hired first, then the Ops Manager for what is essentially a startup. Isn't that backasswards?

You hire whichever one comes along first. It's only a startup from the crewing angle as the paperwork is obviously already in place.

Here is a question for all you aviation types.
Which position is the most important from a line pilots point of view, ops. man. or C.P.?

Usually, the CP is the worst job to have..you're catching crap from above and below. As a line pilot, your boss is the CP, and as CP your boss is the OPS MGR, or at least that how it's supposedly works.

I guess they unseated the Dream Team running Keystone as the best management team in Canada. Oops, my mistake Keystone has the safest SMS rockstar team in Canada.
As for the question Cat, from a line pilot's point of point at the last 3 employers, all I can say is that it depends. Last employer I knew the Ops Managers name, and that was about it. All conversations were with the CP. Before that, the two held equal importance and I spoke to them almost interchangeably. The operator before that, the CP ran the show, and the Ops Manager was kind of a office manager.

When designing a program as vital as SMS one needs to have one of your own morphed into the position to assure you get the best....isn't that what happened at Keystone, they got a TC retread in to get it right?my mistake Keystone has the safest SMS rockstar team in Canada.

I don't know these two guys but I wish them the best of luck. They will need it.
As an Ops Man and a CP you don't really run the show; you follow orders from upper management and try to keep the ship in the "TC waters". Look at all the different management teams that went thru those doors in the past while under current ownership, enough said.
So how much can someone with some jet time and international experience expect to start at on the Challenger? (Ha!)

Martin...
Who was the CP and ops manager when the challenger was purchased? Perhaps someone trying to make their resume better?

I was the Ops manager and DD was Chief Pilot. From what I hear the Challenger has been sold at a pretty big loss. I was being sarcastic when asked about the salary!
