King Air 100 Landing gear
Hi,
Does anyone know of a past precedent for king air 100 landing gear being extended? Here's the situation. We have a 100 where all the gear was done in Sept 02. The life limit on it is 6 years or 8000 cycles. It has done 211 cycles since it's last overhaul. No question it is due by calendar but certainly not by cycles.
Transport Canada requires some sort of documented information with which to grant an extension.
Please, if you have to ask about King Air gear then you probably cannot help me.
Thanks,
Mark

Re: King Air 100 Landing gear
It all depends why you want the extension ( operational, lack of spare gear, etc ) and then how long of a ext you apply for.You will first have to contact Raytheon HawkerBeechCraft are what ever there name is this week and submit to them the reasons why.If THEY give you there written blessing then you can apply to TC for a one time escalation of the gear.NOTE this sometimes takes awhile for TC to process as we all know they are extremely busy( insert smilely face )
Re: King Air 100 Landing gear
I have never heard of any calendar item being extended because "it hasn't been used much".
Face it, the six year gear overhaul is required every six years.

Hell sitting around for six years only being used a few times is probably worse. Corrosion inside, nice dark purple black oil. Thats assuming you havn't serviced it of course. I'll assume you have though. I got a messier gear that had lots of cycles left on it and a brand new paint job, it looked great! Too bad the guts were shot...

Your missing the whole point my friend.
Only 211 cycles in 6years - numbers like this are the exact reason for calender restrictions.

Re: King Air 100 Landing gear
We have of course checked for corrosion and rigging. It lived in a hangar in Vannuys for its life since last overhaul. Then I brought it up here and it lived in my hangar for the last 2 years. I've flown it for the 211 cycles. It had a complete 1-4 phase check at import so the gear has been apart. It is in excellent shape. I would not dream of extending it if we thought there was any problems at all with it.
It has had a pampered life as far as 100's go. We can find nothing at all that indicates any wear or corrosion. Beech does not do "no objection" letters anymore either. It's a bit of a pickle. I will just have to wait and see what TC comes back with. There is no risk to aviation safety by extending it. Of that I am sure.

Re: King Air 100 Landing gear
The regular Phase inspections do not cover the 6 year gear inspection requirements. The Phase inspections mainly cover the gear installation and not the internal condition of the individual components, such as the actuators, the struts, the housings, etc. To say "it looks good at the Phase Inspecton" I don't think will cut it with HBC or TC.
That being said, if you were to do the inspections now, with your time and cycles, and then use your findings as a basis for an extension next time, that'd be more realistic.
Good luck.
