I learned that as a commercial pilot, I would never rush anything. If you have time, go and actually learn the material you probably have 20% of understanding of from your PPL training. They will be asked in gory detail on your exam, you wouldn't want to spend 2 years redoing the exam now would you? cause there are guys who are doing that !

well you see, that is my issue, I am somewhat limited with time. my schedule is completely open now until the end of december, and all the ground school courses are once a week. i'd like to be putting work towards the cpl at least 5 full days a week. if i do this i'll be getting way ahead of my class.

i agree with you, bash it out before december...but i think E-flyer's point is you need to make sure you can get your flight test and all requirements within 2 years of passing the exam, or you'll have to study and write again.
i spent 3 months studying or so...and it definitly wasnt full time. i put in about 150 hours or so and i didnt attend any groundschool classes untill the weekend before my exam i took a weekend commercial seminar. i did fairly well (79 overall and all marks between 74-85).
its not an easy exam, but its not impossible. theres another thread in this training forum and i have recomended study material listed there for what i personally found helpful. thread is called "Passed Written"

haha cubon, I meant spending 2 years redoing the exam ;) was exaggerating.

I just think it's very important that you understand what is being expected of you, none of that memorize crap anymore. They will test for your knowledge. You suck at VOR? get good at it and understand it. How it works, why it gives u this and that indication... etc. What's Relative bearing? Whats BTS? how do u get Magnetic Heading from these if your compass/hdg indicator was bust.

A lot of things might be considered useless at the VFR level, but it is the basic essentials for COMMERCIAL FLYING... which is typically intense MIFR environment with a lot of theory that needs to be second nature.

Go to TC's website and download the Study and Refrence Guide. Anything specifically highlighted(little airplane beside topic)is a MUST KNOW item. Odds are you'll see it on the exam. Anything else listed isn't a bad idea to have at least a decent understanding of. Like said its not impossible. I also studied for 3 months and attended a weekend seminar. Find a couple of practice exams. I used a book called Sabrejet...although some errors in the book it was realistic to the TC question's and the way it was phrased.

Good Luck!
