One controllers likes and dislikes. Ask about your plane.

Post by No_Delay »

Just to start things off! Please no one take any offense ;)

The good:
B727 (M.84+ yes thanks)
RJ900's (What the... oh thats why, he's not a 100 series. Number 1 for sequencing!)
WestJet 737's (Expedite the climb... no problem)
Speedbird (Most professional pilots out there)

The bad:
RJ's 100/200 (Umm.. who else needs a whole province to reach their cruise altitude)
A321's (Bigger Airbus, same engine = almost RJ like performance)
The KingAir at FL350 (Can you say roadblock)
C750 ('Say Mach'.... 'Mach .91' -So thats why their is a 80 knot overtake !!!!)

Just an observation for YYZ controllers...
PLEASE stop talking to us on the landing rollout when were doing 80 KTS and asking us to take whatever high speed. Its very distracting. Want us to take a specific route, do it while were on final or slowed down to almost a reasonable taxi speed. Were going for the first highspeed anyway unless we ask otherwise.

Not trying to get into an argument it's just been happening more often and at higher speeds and I thought I'd point it out.

The beauty of 'those darn dash 8's' is that they can be hung up high and tight and still take the visual and make things work. Where they might slow some of the en route stuff down, they can certainly help expedite stuff in the terminal area.

Hate to tell ya but the system is there to serve the airplanes, not the other way around...if a RJ100 makes your life a little difficult, guess what, that's the job. I can assure you the pilots aren't climbing slowly just to irritate you. Calling a design "bad" just because it doesn't have the performance of another type is kind of...childish? I would think a professional approach would be to look at it as a challenge, trying to fit together the high and low speed, high and low types. Cause ummm...isn't that what you trained for?

Exactly. Cars don't exist to support the paving industry, and airplanes don't exist to support Air Traffic Controllers. You should get used to airlines doing everything more slowly due to the price of fuel. You'll just have to find a way to fit the M.91 C750's in somehow.

So what do you guys think of Metros? I know it has all kinds of disparaging nick names, but how about when you control it?

Those lawn darts make sequencing fun..........and a challenge. (Especially when they've hung up at nosebleeds until 20 miles out landing 18 at CYWG) :smt023

By carefully lowering it into the big hydraulic machine at the Auto Wreckers, and compressing it into 2 cubic yards of aluminum, and former noise.

Oh man, I agree with you on that, so stupid.

How about the pointless, "Contact departure 128.8" at the worst possible time during a busy takeoff phase, when there's five things going on at once, and you need to make a pointless transmission?
Aren't you guys 2 in the cockpit?

Yeah 1 guy is driving and trying to keep it nice and smooth for the pax in the back. One guy is trying to fine tune power settings, selecting gear up, cross checking instruments for climb profile, and run a checklist, leaves lots of time for that pointless call. Though round these parts we usually get contact departure airbourne or through 400' or what ever as part of our initial clearance.

Hey I drive one of em, I happen to think it is a very capable very nice to fly airplane. I think it holds up really nice to its competition.

are we really suprised yqb is not accommodating? 1. They're probably pissed off at you for not speaking the "correct language". and 2. There is a very real possibility that they simply don't understand you...

I still fail to see how hard it is for the PF to make the call "Callsign, Departure on 122.8 good day", especially since most PTT are on the yoke. I must be superhuman I do all of that by myself at 350 kts... Not

Well it is not superhuman but it is more workload. Why add more work load when it is not required?!?!?

You'll have to to radio work anyways. 1 more phrase won't kill you ;) Plus, it's a reminder of the departure frequency! Bonus :D
