Multi-Rating / Aircraft Purchase

Post by CAL »

Hey guys,

Just wondering what the regs say about who is able to give a multi-rating?

Also on a similar note I have been asked to help this said pilot who is also a friend to go look at an aircraft (Apache) that he is looking to purchase and he has also asked that I help him deliver it etc. and do some flying with him in it as he is fairly low time but very capable.

Just wondering if any of you have been in a similar situation and can offer some tips on this.

I have time on various pipers but have not flown light twins in a while.

Thanks!
Cal

Well it's a valid point - just read the regs, don't rely on anonymous douchebags on an internet forum...

If you have a CPL, mult rating, 50hr PIC multi time and 10hrs PIC on the aircraft type used, you can train someone for a multi rating.

But that is without looking at the regs, so I could be wrong.

Yup, that's it (except those times don't have to be PIC):

CAR 425.21 (5)
A person who conducts flight training in a multi-engine aeroplane where the trainee does not have a multi-engine class rating shall:

(a) be the holder of a Commercial Pilot Licence or an Airline Transport Pilot Licence;

(b) have multi-engine pilot experience, which if acquired on centre thrust multi-engine aeroplanes may be credited toward qualifying a pilot to provide centre thrust multi-engine flight instruction only; and

(c) have experience of not less than 50 hours flight time on multi-engine aeroplanes with not less than 10 hours on the type of aeroplane used for the training.

While your point may be valid - I thought the whole idea of a forum was an exchange of information between individuals - not an outlet for berating other aviators. While AntiNakedMan has a point, as do you (however poorly put) one would hope that most people on here don't take what is said as "gospel" and simply take the given information as suggestion before pursuing their own research.
