What works best with me are the Gravol anal suppositories, but I can't put them in by myself.
I sure couldn't ask my instructor to do it for me either - or maybe he would rather do that than having me barf all over him again?
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Obviously double check this with a Doctor, but pilots are not permitted to fly after having taken all types of of gravol (except the natural ginger) as they cause drowsiness.
The two remedies that I have heard of working with some success are the wrist bands that utilize the pressure points on the wrist, and the natural gravol.
What I have also heard is that for some student pilots, if they go flying on a regular basis, the nausea will improve. One thing to keep in mind though, is that after you have the nausea beat, if you stop flying for an extended period of time, it may come back (I had this happen to an unfortunate chap whom I was trying to traing on type).
Shorter flights and make sure the student is flying at all times, it'll pass then you can increase the flight duration. Obviously avoid turbulent days for a while.
+1 for ginger. something about it just really works. Try getting a ginger root from the grocery store, and grating a little bit of it into stir fry or something like that. I also tried the wrist pressure point things when deep sea fishing once and they seemed to really help.
I had a bit of an issue with spins going through my training. When I got around to doing my instructor rating it became blatantly obvious that this was an issue that had to be resolved.
Scopolamine disks are a next tier treatment for motion sickness. Its applied topically as a patch to the arm etc (much like a nicotine patch) it takes a good 12hrs (as i recall) to kick in, and lasts for a considerable amount of time. They work very well however they are only available via prescription and they DO have enough juice to be a legitimate concern for your CAME if not given at the right dose (too much and it has effects similar to PCP.) Also should you touch the drug on the patch and then rub your eyes you will fully dilate your pupils, so be sure to heed all warnings and have a talk with your CAME, ideally tell her/him the situation and get them to write the prescription.
Next step:
Have a talk with your instructor and bribe them with offerings of fine scotch/cigars, get some sick bags and a dry sack, don't have a lunch, and go do spins for 3 hrs straight. Then do it again the next day, and do it again the next day, etc.... you may well puke up colors you had never seen, but after your wrap the bag up, put it in the dry sack and keep on going. Force yourself to fly the plane, the instructor can take the controls while your wrenching your guts out but as soon as your done force your body to fly the machine again.
You will have a VERY unpleasant week, HOWEVER after the fact (at least in my case,) you'll never had a problem again.......
PS: it also gets better with time, you can try and fast track it as described above, or alternatively dont worry about it, grin and bear it and you will find after you reach 500+ hrs its no problems
Those little $10 wristband things with the pressure points cleared my nausia right up, you might want to try them. There is a big thread on airsickness somewhere on here that a lot of people posted helpful stuff in.
be sure to eat before your flight, and have some sugar.
the ginger trick works great, what i've found works even better is having ginger AND canada dry ginger ale.
What you do is boil or microwave a glass of ginger ale with ginger and drink it before your flight, works perfect.
You can also do the same thing with coke...
either way, once you fly enough, you'll know how to control it and it'll just one day go away.
Get some cold air blowing on your face, look outside and let the instructor let you take the controls. I have only gotten motion sickness when I wasnt in control, maybe I was looking inside the aircraft more?

How do you know when your half way through a date with a Pilot? When they say "enough talk about flying, lets talk about me!"
