Read on article on here a while ago about changing the conversion format. Can't seem to find it, trying to see if anyone can send me the link or provide any new information they've heard.
Thanks!

I doubt it they are so highly strung they would hardly make it easier to convert. Possibly, make it more difficult who knows. It takes a degree just to work out which route to take to convert, more effort than it's worth (IMHO), with Airlines the way they are here in Europe at the moment.

Well KLM needs 1000 pilots by 2009 ... That's a lot of cadets to put through in a year...

lol but KLM will only hire from one school. Surprise surprise they own it.... If they change it all well and good but it's gonna take a lot of effort for them get rid of all the padding they have in there ATPL exams.

yea but do you know how easy it is to get into the school? it's not anything like hitlers luftwaffe (DLH) where they test you intensively on academcs before approving you to join them. All you need is common sense, rather okay fitness level, have a dutch citizenship, speak dutch and english fluently, and there you go !
All the dumb ones are sent to AFA after their training... haha poor french. Wonder if that's why their F/O's are known for runway incidents... Just Kidding.

Follow up question...I noticed that MFC has cancelled the JAA conversion program (from the website). Is Naples air center the best place in North America to do the conversion? Or is it best to just hop the pond and dive into it there? Im fully aware of the process now, just curious if its actually worth it? (I have EU Citizenship) Whats the actual career ladder there? I know the whole type rating thing is normal, but its not a guarantee causing for some lost dollars?
Any info is appreciated!

Fred, I thought like you too for a while. But here's the case. Doing a conversion to JAA will not get you that dream job at the airline of your choice. Many of the best airlines in europe such as KLM/DLH/AUS/AFA/BAW/SAS only accept candidates from academy's like Oxford Aviation Academy or their own flight school. You doing a conversion won't mean much because they like to hire people they have interviewed from scratch (without any licenses). I think BAW and SAS select people from OAA (Oxford Aviation Academy), but I didn't really understand if it's possible to convert to a European CPL and just continue on with ur MIFR and Frozen ATPL... OR if u have to redo everything from scratch to be accepted by those airlines? I don't have a clear answer for that.
I know that redoing everything costs around 100 000 Pounds. It's a 1.5 year program I believe which gets you to the competency level to be an F/O... and then BA, Air Lingus, Ryan Air... etc start looking at the top students and hire them.
Try contacting them and see if you get the same vibe I got from them with respect to conversions and the chance to end up flying right seat for an airline. That being said, if airline is the way you want to go. Definitely keep this post going if you get any information as I am really interested too, or PM me.

From what i've understood the only thing that really "convert's" is the hours in your logbook, your basically redoing the written exams and flight tests. I've been quoted so many prices its a little confusing. Oxford is apparently the way to go. IF you are doing a conversion i've been told that doesn't expell you from the cadet scheme, it only puts you in a different category simply because you have license's and hours as oppose to those who don't. expensive is a given, is it worth it is the question. Anyone whose done this process good or bad i'd like to know...and E-Flyer too
