I have a question about the Type Ratings for Boeing 737's in Canada.
In the United States, there is only one rating-- "B737," which the FAA issues for and is valid for all current Boeing 737 models from the -100 up to the -800's.
I see that in Canada there are distinct ratings:
B73A for the -100 and -200
B73B for the -300/-400/-500
B73C for the -600/-700/-800
I am wondering for pilots certified with one of the Boeing 737 type ratings how they can qualify for another 737 type rating. In the past, Transport Canada published under Part IV Standard 421 a couple of apendixes labled "Similar Aircraft Types", one for Types which require ground training only and a second one for types that require ground and flight training, but no PPC. This covered differences training for say, the Boeing 757/767.
I was surprised that no provisions had been made for the 737 series. Does this mean that a pilot holding, say, a B73A type rating must complete a full type rating course to qualify for a B73C type rating? Maybe some Westjeters can share their experiences?

Although the FAA only will endorse you cert with "B737", the type rating that you get, is the same as in Canada, ie 200, and NG models.

The way I understand it the holder of a B73A type rating but who is only trained on the SP-77 autopilot requires differences training for the SP-177 auto flight system which has auto throttles and an MCP/FMA. This training includes CBT and sim training.
The B737 Classic series(300/400/500) has the same SP-177 autoflight system so those B73A/SP-177 qualified pilots only require a further differences course for the B73B type rating involving EFIS(if so equipped) and the CFM engines. I believe this requires CBT and sim training.
Th B73C NG type rating I can't comment on.
